On the one hand gentrification in Leith gives you a new Waterstones, on the other hand you have a boxing and MMA training academy wanting to open in a relatively new building meant to be a cafe...
CoU sought for Class 11 use in the former Waterfront Plaza sales office on Ocean Drive (originally intended as a café unit in the consented masterplan) to create a specialised boxing & MMA training academy: bit.ly/4i6xzx3

Edinburgh has one of the lowest rates of vehicles per household in the UK. Yet, cycle users are still pushed to the margins by planners

Online reporting when, Police Scotland?

Starting to build up a collection of photos on different days / times to build up a case that apparently road safety doesn’t matter when it comes to parking near intersections.

First project: Commercial Street, at the lights next to the Aldi.

This is a @policescotland.bsky.social matter, yes?

As anyone who’s done some consulting will know … it doesn’t automatically mean what you are consulted on will be followed.

May this thought process be with us all on this auspicious day.

Proposed Midlothian response to the tram:

“worried about commercial viability”

Strange. Will the new link road it is building be commercially viable?

What other public investment should be commercially viable in the face of low density Midlothian home building?

165km / 102miles done for the day with the ride from Edinburgh to Galashiels & then the Wintersmith #1 Audax

The bitterly cold headwind only an issue for the last 55km - 6° out but made it feel as 1°C.

Body decent. Face hurts from windburn. Time to recover.

Fun day out!

That’s the bike prepped, clothing laid out, food organised, and routes for tomorrow’s ride to Galashiels & the first Wintersmith Audax loaded into my Karoo.

Gonna be my first ever Audax, kinda excited about it all.

May the weather be better than it was on Thursday morning. 😵

Seeing the news on the latest emails surfacing wherein photos are being asked about.

What a terrible day to know how to read.

They market their cars as weapons and we allow them on the same roads as children cycling to school.

And I still get weird middle-aged men in my notifications obfuscating for and defending this.

This is not a serious society.

⚡📮Nice work @royal-mail.bsky.social, who have just announced the launch of a new fleet of over 100 micro electric vehicles, replacing 52 vans.

Better for the climate and for deliveries. This is exactly the kind of move we need to see for cities free of diesel vans!

A challenge awaits.

Currently a 10 minute wait for pedestrians/cyclists at the London Road/Leith Walk junction.

On a typical 1 mile walking commute, 1/3rd of it could spent waiting at this single junction.

Pathetic from Edinburgh Council, who claimed that the changes here would have no impact on active travel.
Reported to Edinburgh Emergency number who have passed to signals. Recorded a 10min video waiting for them to change and then they did.
May be to do with whether button pushed but didn't try it. Shouldn’t be necessary.

It’s a well known thing in our house that the reason why we don’t own a car, is because also don’t own any fridge magnets.

It’s why “If you don’t have a magnet, you don’t have a car.” makes complete and obvious sense to me.

Making it illegal for automobiles to have distracting screens like this cannot come soon enough.

If anyone is wondering why we want segregated cycle lanes and protection from drivers - giving them distraction pads like this is big on my list.

Let them crash into each other. Leave us out of it.

A lovely evening at the Port of Leith Distillery - learning about the last year of the business + trying out the FIRST year of barrel aging for the spirit distilled right here in Leith!

Absolutely privileged to be here, and thankful for the opportunity.

Now to clear the head before Dawn Patrol. 🤣

Not sure if it’s officially officially open yet as the entrance on Dock Street still has fencing - but the Leith Connections section along Sandport has had all barriers removed and is a JOY to ride!

Want to ride along? 😁

In positive news, looks like Forth Ports have finally taken the time to block off the not-parking-but-treated-as-parking old pavilion and cobbled area of Rennie’s Lock near Teuchters & the Scot Gov. Building!

Well done, will be a much nicer area from here on out without dodging car storage!
