i think the people running the show believe they have reached a point where they have consolidated enough power that trump has outlived his usefulness and is only a hindrance to their further efforts. trump will be gone, the media will fall in line and say the vance admin should be given a chance.

They saw that there was no pushback (outside from by trans people online) to the way that they painted trans people as responsible for the shooting, and they realized that they don't have to actually stop- and that no one else is going to make them stop.

This is simply untenable. There is no way forward with media and political classes captured by the right. Every time someone commits a crime you have to pray it's not an undesirable or it's purge time, then when it turns out to be themselves again they just shrug and wait for the next one.
