The copyright protection that Labour intends to remove from artists is the one that also protects people from having their holiday snaps turned into porn on twitter. If it is fair game for generative AI to slopify books, films and music, then your personal photos will also be fair game.

OK, art post. I meant to post this here yesterday. But I er... didn't! A few more close-up screen-grabs of 'the next book'. On page 90 now!

Happy new year and here's to the downfall of dictators, would be tyrants and whilst I'm here - in the bin with AI.

I am boring old kidney and lung failure caused by Vasculitis. Misdiagnosed initially as cancer, so it could have a right good go at me. The best way to get 7 months off work? I'm going to say no.

My New Year’s resolution is to be even more of a hater to “A.I.”

A soul-murdering scam to create a generation of dead-inside drones - if you use it on the reg you’re a clown at best and if you promote it you’re lower than the shit on Satan’s hoof, sorry I don’t make the rules etc.

Comics gang, anyone interested?
I am interested in working with an artist on a graphic novel on soil and/ or global environmental change. The lab would have money to fund this.

Do you know of any graphic artists that would be interested?

A great thread but I also think we overlook the fact that Starmer doesn’t seem to want the part of the PM’s role that includes talking to the nation. Explaining, persuading, reassuring them of what his government is trying to achieve. He rarely makes any speeches. It’s just really odd.
Glad the FT is asking the question. Even if I’m not convinced they found a compelling answer.
I get that Starmer & Reeves are unpopular, I really don’t understand the extent of the dislike.

This is a good, balanced piece on Alaa Abd el-Fattah, I think: highly critical of successive governments but concluding that, once granted, citizenship is citizenship. "I don’t want to live in a country where naturalised or joint citizens are treated as 2nd-class Britons, forever on probation."
Britain Should Have Read the Tweets First
The case of Alaa Abd el-Fattah is a test of Britain’s values.

It’s pretty easy to grasp. The Tories are detestable, but if you were a Tory voter, odds are those PMs were doing or at least saying some things you wanted from them. Whereas Starmer has banked everything in wooing voters who will hate him no matter what, telling his own base to go fuck themselves.

Good thread by Rob here. Pandering to racists on immigration, the demonisation of Trans people, the failure to tackle taxation of the super-rich, the criminalisation of peaceful protest, the list goes on. They began by taking money off pensioners and have remained on the wrong foot from then on.
I think the key to answering this question is understanding Starmer/Reeves unpopularity among natural allies. A majority of Laboir voters disapprove of him, as do large majorities of LD/Green voters. Hostility from natural political opponents is normal. Hostility from natural supporters is not.

These loans will come with conditions such as austerity measures, privatisation requirements or favourable terms for foreign investors

Ukrainian state assets will be sold off at bargain prices...
