Frederick Wiseman has died; his documentaries were long, but worth it. If you're a foodie you should definitely check out “Menus-Plaisirs — Les Troisgros”, on a Micheline restaurant and the family behind it. I told soo many people about it. #food #cooking #film

No shit, we're in dark times; and if we don't maintain our hope we are lost. I think the history of Leiden and how they endured the Spanish siege is a good guide. Also? When the Spaniards retreated, the celebration wasn't with champagne, but a simple feast of herring and white bread. Be there for it

Really important point here. And I'd also note compare how different the legacy media is covering white man VP JD Vance vs. how they covered Black woman VP @kamalaharris.com, even though she's objectively orders of magnitude more capable & qualified than Vance is.
This same NYT reporter recently published a long story on the rural white conservatives affected by California Democrats’ new congressional map while barely addressing the much more numerous Republican gerrymanders targeting voters of color, cities, etc.

Remind me of Douglass explaining why the 4th of July speech won't waste time explaining why slavery is wrong:

"Must I argue the wrongfulness of slavery? Is that a
question for Republicans? There is not a man under the canopy of heaven, that does not know that slavery is wrong *for him*."

Democrats should get behind a voter ID law that only goes into effect when 99.9% of the eligible population has a valid ID and automatically pauses when the number falls below that. The fact that Republicans would never accept this would make clear what the real point of voter ID laws is.

This Wednesday 2/18, a conversation I got to be a part of, with someone I’ve admired for a long time will be out on YouTube.

I’m still wrapping my head around the fact that it even happened.

I have all of you to thank for putting me in spaces like this.

I can’t wait for you to see who it is.
