I read in the latest issue of Livestock Today! that Iowa hog farmers have developed a breed where the left legs are 3/4" shorter than the right legs. You get leaner pork.
Duffy has earned his shaming over the conflicting interests of dressing nicely and exercise equipment. But airports could be less stressful if they had diversions like game arcades; text messaged-flight announcements could help protect you from missing your flight.

"Why I Went To The Canal," by Henrijk Throjoh
I know Americans overly romanticize Europe but I still think moving to a little house on a canal in the Netherlands could solve like 82% of my problems

A cool thing about BlueSky is someone will post “everyone show me shots of your cats pulling taffy” and 30+ people will actually have shots of their cats pulling taffy.

President Goodbrain can't remember what he said five days ago.
Q: “You said you would have no problem with releasing the full video of that strike on September 2nd.”

Trump: “I didn’t say that. You said that. I didn’t say that. This is ABC fake news.”

Trump on Dec. 3: “Whatever they have, we’d certainly release. No problem.”

This entire thread... I just don't get how a publisher moved ahead with the costs of putting this out in this shape (the trees, the distribution, the marketing). Yes, they paid an advance. No they might not recoup it. But why throw good money after bad? Is this simply the sunk costs fallacy?
Only 17 pages in and I am winded.

This passage, folks… Don’t ever write like this. Just don’t do it.

1️⃣days since alluding to/quoting Samuel Johnson here. Almost reset it a moment ago.
We learned of this a few weeks ago and were not pleased, not at all. And here I will apply one of my favorite Samuel Johnson quotes: "We did not express much satisfaction."

We have a Supreme Court majority that asks itself every day, "Do we have enough tyranny in America?" And it answers, "No, we do not."

Gorsuch: you're asking us to destroy the foundation of government (complimentary)

It's time once again for my annual #treebybike post. This is the 12/19/42 cover of @newyorker.com, so one full year after the attack on Pearl Harbor. This would be the first real Christmas alone, or without a family member, for millions in the US. Gas and tire rationing had begun earlier that year.🗃️

Incredibly galling to hear Sauer talk about how the president is accountable to the public through elections, when the president he's referring to is one who attempted to illegally overturn an election he lost

Conservatives are trying to cut VA benefits for nearly seven million veterans, claiming the current disability compensation encourages veterans to stay sick and cheat the system. From Suzanne Gordon and Steve Early:

Trump Is Coming for Veterans’ Disability Benefits - The American Prospect
The veterans disability system has traditionally been a sacred cow for politicians of all stripes. Now, as part of the conservative war on the Department of Veterans Affairs, the administration is falsely alleging that many former soldiers are cheating the system.

This SCOTUS case is going to have as many repercussions as the Chevron case, which took away agencies' ability to amend regulations based on an expertise which Congress and judges don't have.
December 8, 2025 at 5:04 PM
There's no question but that this SCOTUS case has the potential to become a foot in the door, to end all instances when an agency designed by Congress to be independent, loses that independence. Sauer (US) says the US isn't asking for that, but precedence will soon have it waiting in the wings
Kagan: "but if you take your logic at face value, it seems to include a great many things"...vesting clause gives "all of it" (exec power) to the president. "it does not seem there is a stopping point"
