Every federal worker who has been clocking in without pay, every protestor who showed up for No Kings, every voter who turned out for Dems Tuesday, every community member confronting SS ICE in our streets - all of us braver & better than these "leaders."

This is what I’m saying. THIS is the crew that undermined the Dem caucus and the voters?
So basically...

Fetterman - Fetterman
Shaheen - Retiring
Durbin - Retiring
King - Indy, likely Retiring

Cortez Masto - WTF?
Rosen - WTF?
Hassan - WTF?
Kaine - WTF?

Schumer can be removed from his Dem leadership role this week - 23 Dems (and/or independents) just have to vote to depose him

And they should, given this is his fault.
This is a lovely sentiment but Schumer isn't up for re-election until 2028 and he knows this. At which point he will be 77/78. There's no mechanism to recall a sitting senator AFAIK.
Let’s be clear: Chuck Schumer is the one ending this shutdown, no matter how the votes read.

Chuck Schumer is claiming that he’s voting no, while letting other Senators (Fetterman, Kaine, King, etc) do HIS dirty work.

He must be removed from his leadership & primaried for the sake of this country

The original Dem demands were:
1) Permanent ACA subsidies
2) Medicaid funding restored
3) No more blank checks for the regime (rescission)

They dropped Medicaid immediately. Went silent on rescission. Cut back to 1 year of subsidies on Friday. And surrendered today.

The Senate Democrats!

Every single Democratic Senator should be showing at least this much spine and clarity.
My family has been without half our income for 40 days. It has been.. very hard.

We are willing to feel that pain so people can have health care next year, or to undo these illegal recissions.

We are not willing to have been put through this for NOTHING.

Hard to feel patriotic right now but this: “True patriots are not uncritically devoted to America. They are devoted instead to the ideals of America — the rule of law, equal justice, voting rights and civil rights, freedom of speech and assembly, freedom from fear, and democracy.”
Today I want to talk about the real meaning of patriotism. https://robertreich.substack.com/p/what-patriotism-requires

Yes, this is very much needed! But why any exceptions? Our federal representatives should also be pushing for this in Congress. @schiff.senate.gov @pelosi.house.gov @padilla.senate.gov
We’re seeing the rise of secret police — masked, no identifying info, even wearing army fatigues — grabbing & disappearing people.

It’s antithetical to democracy & deeply harms communities.

The No Secret Police Act will help put a stop to the fear & chaos this behavior creates in communities.

Great crowd today
A photo that I snapped an hour ago of the San Francisco #NoKings protest. I estimate about 150,000 people in total.

You may have already heard these, but it’s time you heard them again.
Here is my best guidance for action, rendered beautifully by the great John Lithgow. I first published these lessons more than eight years ago, in late 2016. They open the twenty chapters of "On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century."

I wish major U.S. newspapers put it this clearly
Donald Trump has committed the most profound, harmful and unnecessary economic error in the modern era. Almost everything he said—on history, economics and the technicalities of trade—was utterly deluded econ.st/3YbbFjq

See @gavinnewsom.bsky.social. It’s not that hard to be a politician and a decent human being.
There are trans Americans right now looking out at this world and wondering if anyone is going to stand up for them and for their simple right to exist.

Well, I am. We are. We will.

EXACTLY! Put the other way, if you give a fuck about trans people, you're also saying you give a fuck about, well, everyone else too (especially anyone who's not already very powerful).
Trans rights are tied up in several crucial aspects of personal freedom: bodily autonomy, medical autonomy, freedom of self-identity, rights of the child and workplace equality, to name only a few.

If your politician caves on trans rights, they'll cave on any other issue in these areas too.
