Brexiters said that leaving the EU would “take back control”, but 72 per cent of British voters said we now have less control over our affairs than before, and only 15 per cent believe the slogan has lived up to its promise.

1. The Schengen Area is one of Europe and the EU’s greatest achievements. It has transformed everyday life for hundreds of millions of people — and it works extremely well for people inside the zone.

🧵 Here’s a thread about how Brexit messed things up for millions of people:

21% of NHS staff are immigrants, but only 16% of the UK population was born overseas.

So are you more likely to be treated by an immigrant - or stand behind them in the NHS queue?

Here’s what people told us.

A year of reasons why Ofwat must say NO to 15 years of illegal sewage.

SEPTEMBER: Despite huge under-investment, Thames Water asks Ofwat if they can do fewer infrastructure projects. Whose interests do they serve??
Tell Ofwat to reject Thames Water's new deal.

Exactly this.
Since Facebook, it's been easier to mobilise flat earthers to vote than people wanting a sensible trade policy.

Pint of wine anyone?
So glad we tanked our economy and futures for this, always possible benefit.
Happy second anniversary of the Tory government’s announcement that pints of wine could be stocked on Britain’s shelves for the first time ever thanks to Brexit.

Freedom of Movement didn’t mean “open borders”.

It meant equal treatment:

• Work without permits
• Rent or buy homes
• Access healthcare
• Move for love, family, or opportunity

All of that was automatic for British citizens.

Long time Cardiacs fan since being raptured to heaven by a nineties festival performance. Albeit a noisy, choral, pantomic, chaotic, disturbing heaven.
Amazed to find out they've got a new album out, LSD, and it's classic Cardiacs, fantastic:

New from Gnomemart: Wrist Bike Bell.

Fed up with other pedestrians dawdling along, looking at their phones? Just one ring on the Wrist Bike Bell and hey presto! The pavement is yours as they dive out of the way thinking a Lime bike is about to run them over!

From the new Private Eye, out now.

A year of reasons why Ofwat should just say NO to Thames Water's outrageous deal - being allowed to pollute our water for 15 years.

MARCH: Thames Water & Ofwat both scaremongering in the press about the cost of taking TW into public ownership.

But here's the truth.

The contaminated waste piled high in a field near Kidlington is now washing into River Cherwell. In the last 48 hours, the water level has risen 4+ feet and is lapping against the illegal dump.

We stand on the edge of an environmental disaster. We need urgent action from the Environment Agency.

Here's how the real two-tier Britain works:
1. Whatever Nigel Farage says, however stupid, is looped and discussed by the media, while left-wing voices are treated as noises off.
2. Tiny far-right protests get massive airtime, while 10s of 000s gathering for Palestine or green causes are ignored.🧵

“The date that Daniel Hannan chose for his now infamous Newsnight video and Reaction Life article, published two days before voters went to the polls in the 2016 referendum, has finally arrived. Yes, it’s 24 June 2025”

Anyone else remember this exercise in purest Brexit fantasy? 🌈🦄
Has Lord Hannan forgotten his 2016 vision of post-Brexit Britain?
24 June 2025 was to be Britain’s Independence Day, celebrating the “reinvigoration of our economy, our democracy and our liberty”
