NB always be very careful with briefings during crucial parts of negotiations, they are in themselves part of the process and always have some ulterior motive. Best not taken at face value.

Looks like my candidature for the council of the European Movement has really rattled the trolls.

Bears no resemblance to discussions in Brussels, just an anti-UK the EU is always right rant. Picking up some suggestions that the French have overplayed their hand (again) leading to pushback, hopefully then tals will formally start soon (informally they already did).
I have no recent insight particularly, but that description of UKG chicanery and trying to leverage what had been agreed chimes loudly with earlier in the year.
Keep an eye. Not saying 🇪🇺 will walk, but expect suspension unless the UK gets its house in order

I have to say, this is earlier than I had expected. But if the UK wants to benefit from being inside the SM, it has to contribute.
As for wanting to pay half as much as others for Erasmus, where do they get off?
The Uk chose Brexit. Stop asking others to pay their way.

I read it. It doesn't reflect the conversations many people are having in Brussels and elsewhere. Red lines are normal in a negotiation, on both sides. The EU is having trouble with unity of member states. This is not any more all about a hostile UK.

I wonder sometimes if this compulsion to not let Brexit “work”, under any circumstances, is actually what will end up preventing any rapprochement whatsoever with the EU.
“Making Brexit work” and rejoining the EU might even end up being the same thing.
As for making Brexit work: I believe we have to make **the future after brexit** work.
Because if Brexit can’t be backed out (as if it never happened) then our options are to move forwards or to change nothing.
I don’t think there’s any danger of Brexit itself looking like it was a success.

Is it possible to reverse Brexit as if it never happened? Because if it is, then that would be the most elegant way of everyone saving face.

I can’t imagine the current status quo is very good for the EU either; even less so if it is so bad for the UK that economically, socially and politically a huge country like the UK deteriorates on the EU’s doorstep.
