The Black and the Green (St. Clair Bourne, 1983) on @criterionchannl.bsky.social was a great followup to Union. It's about Black activists going from America to Belfast to express their solidarity with the Irish revolutionaries during the Troubles. A beautiful portrait of solidarity as a practice.

From this minister's op-ed: "People wanting to experience God are more likely to meet the Divine trying to shut down the Broadview, Illinois, ICE facility than we ever were in church...God does not live in our houses of worship, but...with those who are bearing the brunt of cruelty in this moment."

2/4. The entire practice of the Holocaust of the Jews involved zones of statelessness. It is easier to move people away from law than it is to remove law from people. Almost all of the killing took place in artificially created stateless zones.

Woke up hoping for a new chapter of a great fanfic but the writer's chronic pain kept her from writing this week. Instead, I saw that we'd pressured Romania into letting us give sanctuary to sex traffickers/far right radicalizers. There is no better encapsulation of 2025.

Yes, this administration is dangerous and cruel, but they are also shockingly dim and incompetent.

Opportunities are everywhere.

Make everything as hard as possible. Resist every demand. Refuse entry without a warrant. Don’t take the buyout. Their problem solving skills are 📉

The thing about “patriotic education” is that if you have to lie about America to love it then you probably don’t really love it. Ultimately their objection to the flawed universalism expressed in the declaration is the idea that the flaws were bad or that the universalism should be realized.

SHARE WIDELY.
KNOW YOUR RIGHTS.

With mass deportations starting today across the country, it is vitally important - for both citizens and non-citizens - to know your rights.

You have the right to remain silent. Assert it. You have the right to a lawyer. Ask for one.

Ok so Trump. Great job bringing TikTok back, that's something I'm sure you'll never stop bragging about. Now about how fast you're taking a wrecking ball to the America's structure & threatening people's rights. Also the CDC can't even ever send us advisories about disease anymore? Overkill.

TikTok was never going anywhere. The TikTok creator gave millions to Trump and they orchestrated this whole PR stunt just so Trump will be seen as a 'hero' to young people.

In all seriousness: the last 2 weeks of TikTok posturing and Zuck grovelling, combined with the X insanity of the last year, should show you that an app with a feed that you don’t control serves *other people’s interests* - not yours.

A lesson from the TikTok Affair should be that bipartisan efforts to preserve U.S. national security are vulnerable to the incoming president getting bought off and switching sides for his own personal and political benefit. Not great!

If law enforcement wants to enter your home, unless you consent, they need a JUDICIAL warrant like a search warrant. And you'll notice cops with search warrants don't ask permission.

If ICE needs your permission to enter, they don't have a judicial warrant. They have an administrative warrant.

🤦🏻‍♂️ I have no words.

Trump is the icing on a very shitty cake. And we have a lot of work to do to earn the trust of the majority of the world again, if we ever had it in the first place, which is debatable.

We can start by having a citizenry that stands up to Trump in tangible ways.
