People are always like “What, Warreil Bergaquivel should never work again?!? What about second chances?!?” while gleefully skipping past hundreds and hundreds of victims and whistleblowers who, indeed, never get to work again, and never get second chances.

I am 43 and I don't make a living in comics anymore largely because I want the freedom to say things like this without trading it for my livelihood.

That's pretty fucked up.

And those, in turn, are the people who set the standards and tone of the industry with their participation and complicity.

Again, there are exceptions and people in power who push for change, and I'm glad. But they're not yet a plurality. (cont'd)

The people who rise, who stay long enough to accumulate power and seniority, aren't all predators; but they are by and large--not universally, but mostly--people able to mesh with company and industry culture, to avoid damage and avoid being too impacted by the damage other people take. (cont'd)

(A bit of relevant context for those of you who've only known me relatively recently: I transitioned in my mid 30s, which means that I spent my 20s and early 30s in the comics industry perceived and presenting as a woman.)

My entire generational cohort of female editors--who were pretty numerous--is gone from DH. Many of them no longer work in the comics industry.

This is not exceptional. I cannot emphasize how exceptional this is not.

Anyway.

I am pretty sure that there is no woman or other person of marginalized gender in comics whose career has not been substantially impacted--whether they saw it or not--by the extent to which misogyny, expressed partly by harassment and assault, are normalized in the comics industry. (cont'd)

You absolutely can win “not being being a privileged white asshole annoyed about being asked to learn how not to be racist”. You can without question win all of those.

The problem with this argument is that, regardless of what your evil overlords are doing, *you* can be a total piece of shit in the workplace, and your female, disabled, and non-white coworkers can be punished, harassed, or even fired for bringing it up on their own.
It is critically fucking important to get that people hated that stuff - and the general business Maoism shift of Late Woke - because of how incredibly insulting and demeaning it is to be lectured about your personal culpability in inequality by your evil corporate overlords. That's what sucked

Actually we don't talk nearly enough about conversion "therapy" or how evil it is or the fact that many people who go through it never fully recover.

So many people, even cishet allies, think it's just like ineffectual talk therapy and that misconception is so dangerous.

i don't see a lot of conversation about secular conversion therapy, but it's incredibly brutal, definitely not just "bad talk therapy."

my therapist gaslit me into thinking my own mind was a fabrication, that my desires, goals, etc were delusons. all an effort to break me and rebuild me as a woman.

His short-staffed office is doing constant overtime and bouncing between contempt hearings.

The rule cites research that at will programs at the state level encourage the adoption of Schedule F. I wrote here why such a claim is nonsense: donmoynihan.substack.com/p/at-will-wh...
At will? Whose will?

I mean this is exactly what happened with MeToo, for the number of harassers and abusers outed, those punished had to be less than 1%
It’s really weird for some corners of the media to do a whole “the Epstein files are a moral panic that has gone too far” thing when no one has faced any sort of punishment and doesn’t sound like they’re going to.

It's obviously bullshit and it's obviously meant to put the creative output of oppressed people onto a fragile medium that the powerful can toss into the void whenever they want, leaving behind a gaping cultural void *that was never actually possible* until now.

It's not only obviously bullshit, again just fucking *look* at art, but is actively trying to destroy the ability of the oppressed to make art.

Because using genAI isn't making art, it's not improving one's skills at making art. It's the opposite, and it is controlled by a handful of billionaires.

It's not only obviously bullshit, again just fucking listen to any American music, but it is openly advocating for creative expression to be gatekept by a literal handful of billionaires in the Epstein files.

Who control the tool that will supposedly allow art to finally be made by the oppressed.

The thing about saying that genAI will enable the marginalized to create art is that not only is it not true, literally just fucking look at art and music and writing,

but it is saying that a handful of rich pedophiles should be allowed to control whether marginalized people can produce art.

Tens of thousands of comments were filed to try to block this rule, but this administration has no respect for democratic input and is determined to destroy all expertise in government.
Final Schedule F rule published: in defiance of the vast majority of public comments, it commits to further politicizing government, removing anyone the Trump administration dislikes.
