it would be wild if there was a famous thought experiment about a machine that could translate Chinese into English without every understanding the language, like this is such a hyperspecific torment nexus to invent
I can't believe that the Translation Review published this article praising the use of chatgpt for translating Classical Chinese poetry?!?!?!

we should probably teach kids to code more just to demystify this shit. like it’s not easy, but it’s very learnable. letting people think Being Good At Computer makes you a genius polymath has been such a disaster.
Their response to "he's violating the Constitution" is really "but bro is so sick at coding."

US rule of law in shambles. Tech ideology is really that kind of caricature of itself.

after days of grifters and con men at CES we stumbled upon the booth for VLC. they were all dressed as wizards and told us, "we have nothing to sell, we just decided to show up". i told them I'd been using their software to pirate media for 15 years and they said "keep doing that"

Did you know that dogs in ancient Mesopotamia also refused to drop the ball?

According to a Sumerian proverb, “The dog understands ‘Take it!’ It does not understand ‘Put it down!’”

Secondly, this is a miniature portrait from around 1660. It comes with overlays that allow you to change her appearance for fun. Filters from 500 years ago lol!
