This discourse embodies the worst of the post-1970 left: telling people not do something that is effective elsewhere, making hyperlocal claims without explaining what is so unique there, appealing to “local people” with no rigor beyond the anecdotal, and appealing purely to identity when challenged.

Randy Newman: “I tried to warn you.”
Man the implication that somewhere deep in our brain there is a “see tiny people all over the place” button and a mushroom can press it, that’s deeply unsettling.
With most psychedelic drugs, you never know what you're going to get. But this mysterious mushroom from China - without fail - causes users to hallucinate tiny people: crawling up walls, popping out from under furniture and marching under doors. www.bbc.com/future/artic...

I read this before I saw who wrote it, & DHS lies so much that I didn’t hesitate believing it.
CBS News is reporting that the ICE agent who abducted a Minnesota preschooler suffered internal injuries during the abduction.

I look forward to the establishment of a Wiesenthal Center-like organization dedicated to identifying and hunting former DHS agents so that they may be held accountable.

another terrific essay from bhatt--savage in her criticisms of various leftist darlings, incisive about how "the third world" so often functions more as a ideological bludgeon in intra-western slapfights than a real place full of real, diverse people

I think the subtext on a lot of the Insurrection Act stuff is that ICE recruitment is not going particularly well, they need bodies, and they keep getting no-sirred by the courts on National Guard

In October, ICE grabbed Maher Tarabishi.

He was a 24/7 caregiver for his disabled son Wael.

At the time of Maher’s detention, disability advocates warned that taking away Wael’s caregiver put his life at risk.

Wael died on Friday at age 30.

ICE caused his death.

They didn’t get to say goodbye.
Disabled son of ICE detainee dies after 30 days of hospitalization
It had been months since Wael Tarabishi seen his father. The family is calling on ICE to release Maher Tarabishi so he may attend his son's funeral.

so I saw some posts where the PSL appears to be attempting to capitalize on the mass movement in Minnesota... remember that their org supported the Assad regime that used chemical weapons, and they're in bed with Putin. absolutely terrible group.

I clock it as a symptom of the Full Throttle Zionist thinking. Like when Trump 45 talked to Jewish peple about "dual loyalty," we were pretty mad! That assumption was antisemitic both on its own and in its legacy! And this dude is like "how dare you call me an American first, I have dual loyalty!" 🙃

Counterpoint: that kind of thing doesn't play as well in Minnesota as it does elsewhere. Politicians who shove their way to the front of a protest are perceived as trying to steal the thunder of the real organizers, and Minneapolis is a city of organizers. So a lot of local pols tend to hang back.
imagine seeing these ICE protests today and you as a potential governor or senator or national democratic candidate didn't push babies out of the way to get to the front of the march

yall really bad at retail politics and seizing the moment huh

thinking a lot of vague and inarticulate thoughts lately about how Trump/MAGA were only made possible by social media, and how social media now is one of the most powerful weapons against them

negative polarization vs positive peer pressure

echo chambers vs protest photos and videos
