This discourse embodies the worst of the post-1970 left: telling people not do something that is effective elsewhere, making hyperlocal claims without explaining what is so unique there, appealing to “local people” with no rigor beyond the anecdotal, and appealing purely to identity when challenged.

Like, there is just not any kind of coherent ideological definition that places Mandami outside the context of US liberalism. This only makes sense if we're defining these terms solely in the context of cliques and based on affect, style, and which social media faction you associate them with.

Here's a regular white guy (literally "Chad") not a protester. because, "It seemed pointless, or just a way for people to expiate their sense of guilt." Chad witnessed something shattering. And, that all changed in a moment.

Excellent article!

Troy McClure “Here Comes the Metric System”-ass episode
And, tonight, the network's flagship news program -- 60 Minutes -- ran a clip show of old celeb interviews to "celebrate the movies" rather than put together an episode focused on what's going on in Minnesota.
The person who publishes the Free Press — where the words “Minneapolis” and “Minnesota” never appear tonight — also runs CBS News.

Steph Curry on watching the protests from his hotel window: "In negative 10-degree weather. It was beautiful to see that turnout. That speaks to how important people felt to have their voice heard. In those elements and whatever streets outside our hotel, they were out, and it was amazing to watch."

Do you know any locals’ Signal group chat? I’m kind of antisocial and I’m quite nervous to ask. Like, is there a group chat, maybe like a Democrat group chat or an anti-ice group chat? Thank you. Would you like to move this toward message so nobody else can see it?

The killing of Alex Pretti is a heartbreaking tragedy. It should also be a wake-up call to every American, regardless of party, that many of our core values as a nation are increasingly under assault.

From earlier this month, in my latest Governing column I explain why I think short-term rentals and investor-owned single-family properties are mostly bogeymen in the housing affordability conversation www.governing.com/urban/puttin...
Putting Housing in Little Boxes
A century of increasingly restrictive zoning has priced out lower-cost housing, and new limits on how homes are used risk deepening the affordability crisis.

Not necessarily sapphic But with women as the authors, central characters. Isabelle Allende, Amy Tan, Margarite Attwood, etc. I love good writing and women, at last, are coming to the forefront. (Please don't tell anyone but I think I'm a lesbian trapped in a gay male body...)
