when we pretend evil is brilliant, genius, otherworldly, beyond our simplistic capacity to render judgment on it - we are actually flattering and soothing ourselves. because to admit otherwise is to admit we allow evil people to flourish despite their evident banality and mediocrity. it damns us.

Republicans love adding seats to state Supreme Courts! They've done it three times in recent years. This latest court-packing plan will shift Utah's high court far to the right and possibly flip rulings on abortion and gerrymandering.

Democrats should take note that Rs have deemed this acceptable!
This hasn’t received nearly enough attention:

Republicans just passed a law to pack Utah’s Supreme Court after it ruled against their congressional gerrymander.

Cox could appoint two more justices before the court hears the GOP’s latest appeal to preserve their gerrymander
Utah governor signs bill adding justices to state Supreme Court as redistricting appeal looms
Once the new seats are filled, Gov. Spencer Cox will have appointed five of the seven justices.

Still haven’t gotten used to the fact that we have a president who frequently goes on insane, explicitly rants against vast swaths of people.
Trump: "Minnesota is a mess. There's something in the water up there. I won the 3 three times but I got no credit for it. It's a rigged state. Really rigged badly w/ the Somalians, and the Somalians & the theft. We gotta get 'em out, most of them. 92% don't work. Many of them drive Mercedes-Benzes."

South Carolina is not the only state with falling vaccination rates & rising religious exemptions. There’s a lot more measles in our future.
NEW: South Carolina’s measles outbreak is country’s largest in more than 25 years. But its falling vaccination coverage + rising religious exemptions from school requirements don’t make it an outlier. My story. Gift link. 1/3

What South Carolina’s soaring measles outbreak means for the rest of the U.S.
More than 840 measles infections have been reported in South Carolina, surpassing the tally in Texas last year. Public health experts say it shows the risks when vaccination coverage falls.

This is so important because A) she did it in response to Benedict Wong, a far more prominent actor, saying he's listening to the audiobooks a lot and B) did it unprompted, she specifically stopped the fluff interview to draw the comparison to the themes of their film and support trans people.
You’ve got to love how actress Kelly Marie Tran, one of the most harassed people ever to be on the internet, still leapt up to defend trans people in a recent interview. No one would blame her for keeping her head down and shutting up forever but she will NOT and I admire her for it ⭐

Greg Bovino’s raids fail in city after city. They retreat—and they can’t do this to more than 2-3 cities at a time, and it gets harder in each city. It took 3,000 officers to do in Minneapolis what they tried to do with 1,000 agents in Chicago. Friction works. www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/trump-bord...

I moved to the U.S. when I was 18. One of my firmest core beliefs is that there is simply no country, no people group, no institution morally superior to another.

The arc of the moral universe is long, but it requires those who care to actively bend it toward justice. And many do try.

This is such an important point. This family tried to follow the rules.

The distinction is going to get more important when they start mass deporting the people whose TPS status Trump revoked. They’ll call them “illegal” too, even though they were here legally until Trump yanked the rug.
People are missing a big thing about the saga of the detained 5-year-old. When Vance calls the father an "illegal alien" it seems to reflect a little-known Trump admin move that attempts to nullify asylum claims before they are even heard.

This policy is a horror:

NEW: We're publishing an astonishing outburst the Dep of Health and Human Services left in our inbox.

In an unsolicited email about our coverage of a horrific vaccine experiment, the HHS insisted the Africa CDC was an unreliable source for information, calling it "fake" and "powerless."
