"What happened didn't matter, what it felt like was what mattered." was something an ex told me in a post-mortem on our break-up. At the time I thought she was insane, now I think it is one of the wisest things anyone has said about how we think about the world.
Given her baseline concerns, her susceptibility to messaging, and how ppl with extreme political views tend to be attracted to other, alternative extreme views (horesshoe theory), I could imagine MTG spending a year with the left and being about where Bernie was in 2016.

Comparing Bloomberg to Wilson is ridiculous. My understanding is that Wilson ran a non-profit with one employee -- herself. And Bloomberg built a multi-billion dollar business with many, many employees. Not saying that Wilson is getting a fair shake ...
for the record, this is how the @nytimes.com covered Bloomberg, a man elected to the same office as Katie Wilson with the exact same amount of experience in public office as Katie Wilson, but whom the paper did not view with obvious contempt www.nytimes.com/2001/11/07/n...

Desires by order.

He desired: 1st order
He desired desiring: 2nd order
He desired being desired: 1st order
He desired desire itself: Could be classified several different ways, but .. 1st?
i think this may be the bit that broke me bc I am picturing her self-satisfied smirk at coming up with this and it is, honestly, making me die a little on the inside

What makes a banana republic a banana republic is not any prosecution of the outgoing administration, but baseless, politically motivated prosecution. There is a whole literature which teaches that, if crimes against the public order occurred, failing to prosecute them hastens democratic decline.

I assume there is some form of omerta among all the Epstein clients. If some of them start getting prosecuted, my guess is that they will start talking.

This list misses the most common way parents evaluate schools. "Does it reflect my values to my children." IMO tho, schools are about polishing stones, improving on the raw material as best we can.
A lot of education discourse is at root an inability to decide whether the purpose of our education system is to 1) teach material and measure learning 2) reward students who work hard 3) separate the smart kids (destined for smart guy jobs) from the dumb kids (destined to serve the smart guys)

*whispers* It is mostly a question of what you are testing for. Subject matter knowledge vs. time management vs. working under pressure, etc. In the majority of school situations, flexibility on testing time is fine -- but not necessarily always.

Incredible that this essay about British decline does not mention Brexit, the cause of British decline.

Someone in DC should blare "Thank Heavens for Little Girls" at the White House 24 hours a day, Noriega style.

If you have ever been in love with Kimberly Guilfoyle or RFK, Jr. your judgment is so badly impaired you should stay out of the public eye and not seek positions worthy of respect or require sound decision making skills.

That end of the Trump & Epstein buddy movie and move into a feud is based on one of them poaching young (underage?) employees from the other is pretty amazing.

"I was sexually assaulting her first!"
As his one-time longtime best friend Jeffrey Epstein wrote:
"I have met some very bad people. None as bad as Trump. Not one decent cell in his body."

Krugman is dead on here.

Note: It's a cult, where a lot of the adherents have a lot of money on the line.
If you need me, tap me on the shoulder. I’ll be happily working all day listening to this on a loop.

Lefty: "Poor ppl experience greater income instability and lower savings rates resulting in them being at much higher risk of being unable to pay their bills."

Landlord: "The risk of deliquency among poor ppl is higher, and I adjust my rents to compensate for that risk."

Lefty: "Fascist!"

Quick Question: Why don't noted (alleged) pedos Drake and R Kelly appear in the Epstein emails? What makes them different than the weirdos who mailed him all the time? I'll have to think about this v carefully.

Here is the thing. If someone says, "If you don't do X, I will get rid of the filibuster," (1) they are saying, "If I want X enough, I will get rid of the filibuster," or (2) they are bluffing. If it is (1), then the only thing you can stop them from doing is stuff they don't care about that much.
November 14, 2025 at 12:07 AM
I agree that filibuster will enable bad things to happen, but we have elections to punish that. But it also enables good things to happen. I for one am sick of living in a vetocracy.
Straightforward confirmation from Angus King that the gang of eight made the deal out of earnest concern for the filibuster. www.pressherald.com/2025/11/13/w...

VAN SUSTEREN: Can we certain that we're not getting innocent people?

McCORMICK: We are certain

VAN SUSTEREN: But have we? Can you say with certainly we haven't hit innocents?

McCORMICK: Unless somebody has information to the contrary, we are as careful about this as anything we do

If you laden affordable housing projects with enough regulations and above market costs, you will inevitably end up with ... more of it?!?!?!
NYC Council has a veto-proof majority on a union-backed bill to set a $40/hour minimum average compensation for workers on city-funded affordable housing projects, kicking in at 100 units www.crainsnewyork.com/politics-pol...
Developers alarmed as council advances minimum wage for affordable housing projects
The Construction Justice Act would set a $40 wage-and-benefit floor, increasing the cost of building.

Epstein went to jail in 2019 (for the second and final time). What does it say about the morals of the current GOP that pre-2016 election a known sexual predator worked harder to derail Donald Trump's election than they ever have?
Jeffrey Epstein in 2015: "Have them ask my houseman about donald almost walking through the door leaving his nose print on the glass as young women were swimming in the pool and he was so focused he walked straight into the door."

Trump Admin vs OTC pain relief! Who saw it coming! Waiting for Vance to say, "Just take opiates, those things work, ask my family down in the 'holler."
JD Vance calls ibuprofen "useless medication" and implies it's not "necessary, safe and effective."
