I just told my roommate about the old citi bank identity theft commercial with the leather bustier that "lifts and separates," and thankfully it's on youtube, and now she is cackling madly.

DNA scientist James Watson has a remarkably long history of sexist, racist public comments
“People say it would be terrible if we made all girls pretty,” he said in 2003. “I think it would be great.”

Science Bluesky, I need a question answered that is not yielding to Google!
Can you carbon-14 date an alien?
Because I know it requires nitrogen-14 in the upper atmosphere and if the alien homeworld doesn’t have the same nitrogen content…?

I'm really annoyed by this, entirely because it's boring, unimaginative, and not funny. Put some goddamn effort in.
this is achieving levels of 2003-era racist grandpa cringe that cannot be measured with any known scientific instruments

My new favorite Reddit quote:
"Math is not done using one's genitals."
(Context: a post from a guy trying to justify having told his college-age daughter that she shouldn't go into hard sciences. His reasoning? Women don't tend to go into those because they're too math- and science-heavy.)

I just swore at my cat and called him an asshole, and he responded by running over to be petted.
This is kind of par for the course with him.

We have cats, and of course like any multi-unit building we occasionally have bugs. So any time we see something small and dark on the floor, we get to play a game I like to call, "poop or bug?"

But two years later, they haven't — and MA has collected $5.7B for infrastructure and public education.
A reminder that positive change can still happen at the state level.

Apparently some folks are playing real dumb about skull symbols so let’s play a little game I like to call “Nazi skull or not a Nazi skull”
First up, the Jolly Roger. This is a pirate skull, not a Nazi skull. It means you might get robbed, but prolly not genocided.
With me so far? 1/x

EXCLUSIVE: One Saturday afternoon in October, my phone lit up with a notification.
I glanced down at the message.
“Anna, Lindsey Halligan here,” it began.
So began my text exchange with the woman who is prosecuting the president's perceived political enemies.

I will never (knowingly) read AI-generated fiction. Why? Because reading isn't just about the enjoyment I get out of it. It's also about supporting people who do awesome work that I love.

Some people don't understand why every last detail of private medical information should stay private. So here are some reasons.
1. Your employer could fire you because of a condition you have.
2. You could be denied life insurance.
3. You could be socially ostracized (HIV anyone?).

Most likely lymphoma. At least Susan's research is saying there are some new chemo drugs that actually work pretty effectively and that could potentially give him a few more years.
Boy do I wish Dax had hyperthyroidism. Looks like it's probably either IBD or small-cell lymphoma. I know which one I'm hoping for.
