“Putting a hat on a hat” is literally a term actual comedians use to describe something as trying so hard to be funny it is no longer funny.

This works, highly recommend. As they say, it’s a real pig in the basement for Google.
Someone on Threads noticed you can type any random sentence into Google, then add “meaning” afterwards, and you’ll get an AI explanation of a famous idiom or phrase you just made up. Here is mine

The republicans have bought the refs, are doping, have lowered their basket, call a foul anytime an opponent looks at them, and count all their layups for 10 points. The Democrats are saying 'let's run the pick and roll, and play the game the right way,' and expect that to be a winning strategy.
