I’m actually looking to see if I can make going to Essen work, schedule & money-wise. Every time I’ve recently considered a US-based con I think, no, I don’t want to do that.

I think “no one thought the institutions and systems would allow them to do it” is much more accurate. And that is what we’re seeing right now. They said what they would do, and they’re dismantling and bypassing rules and institutions to do it, and the opposition keeps relying on those rules. [3/3]

The answer was always “no one thought they would actually do it,” which I took to mean “no one thought they would actually have the desire to go through with it.” I have a different perspective now. [2/3]
