I will never forget having to edit Jamal’s final, posthumous piece for the Washington Post, after he was murdered.

He was calling for free expression in the Arab world. You can read it here :

Opinion | Jamal Khashoggi: What the Arab world needs most is free expression
The Arab world needs a modern version of the old transnational media so citizens can be informed about global events.

Never mind them abandoning the ACA, the fact that they have the audacity to tout helping federal workers while doing nothing new is exhausting.

If you were going to cave for feds, don’t do it just in exchange for… existing laws about them being honored. Restore hybrid work, get contracts back, etc.
My statement on the funding deal to reopen government, protect federal employees, and vote to protect health care:

And yet you voted to cave on families having healthcare. Does the ability of families to get medicine only matter to you if it can be accompanied by a happy birthday tweet?
Happy 250th birthday, U.S. Marine Corps! As the father of a Marine, I’ve seen firsthand the service, leadership, and dedication of our nation’s Marines. I will continue working to ensure you and your families have the support you need as the Ranking Member on the Senate Seapower Subcommittee.

The filibuster is so fundamentally anti-democratic that forcing the authoritarian party to kill it so that they could keep taking health care and food away from Americans was probably the cleanest out from the damn thing, yet this Cones of Duneshire-ass opposition party loves rules more than wins.

Pretty much all affordability discourse could benefit from just posting this chart.

If you're in the better off America, all the luxury goods you want in excess are for the most part much cheaper. If you're in the poorer America, most of the shit you need to live/grow is more expensive.

They caved in March so they could get a better deal now. They’re caving now so they can get a better deal in some indeterminate future. The better deal is always just beyond their reach, but continuing to cave will get them there. And if you don’t agree with that, you don’t understand Politics,

The coordinated nature of this—none are facing voters in 2026—means that either Schumer approved it or failed in his job as Senate Majority Leader to stop it.

Dems voting "no" get zero credit until they demand a change in leadership. Schumer out as Leader, Durbin out as Whip.
so currently defectors are:

Kaine (2030)
Shaheen (Retiring)
Hasan (2028)
Fetterman (2028)
Durbin (Retiring)
CCM (2028)
Rosen (2030)
King (2030)

That’s what American healthcare is riding on? Senate republicans having shame?
Agree.

Sen Hassan, asked what will happen if Republicans don't carry out the deal, "Well, shame on them."

This is not what people were mobilizing for on Oct 18.

My family has been without half our income for 40 days. It has been.. very hard.

We are willing to feel that pain so people can have health care next year, or to undo these illegal recissions.

We are not willing to have been put through this for NOTHING.

If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?

If a budget deal goes through without restoring Medicaid & ACA subsidies, they will never be restored.

That's a death sentence for millions of Americans but also to the entire republic and economy: Health care is a for-profit business generating TREMENDOUS economic activity & will grind to a halt.
November 10, 2025 at 12:16 AM
The continuing resolution republicans want only funded the government through November anyways, so why are we still talking about it & not working on a longer budget? Even if we passed the CR today we’d IMMEDIATELY have to begin talks on the next bill so why not… do that. There’s no reason for this.
GOP SEN. JOHN KENNEDY: It may be 2026 when we'll come out of the shutdown.

REPORTERS: 😳

KENNEDY: I'm not kidding, you guys. I mean, you see what I see. Okay? This shutdown is going to last a long time. What's going to get us out of it?
