I don’t know who needs to hear this but no amount of oil drilling is going to make your groceries more affordable. That oil profit will not see your bank account.

This is craven and beyond contempt. There's no justification. Carney is using the perceived threats from the US to justify slashing commitments, checks, and balances as they pertain to environment, labour, and basically everything else.

This is a corporate power grab and an attack on everyone.

A student admitted to grad school at UNB is stranded in Gaza because the Canadian government won't issue a study permit without biometrics that in turn cannot be produced without a travel visa to leave Gaza.

The Canadian government needs to issue the permit and UNB needs to intervene.

truly cannot understand why this article is getting hated on
What do you do when you’re a gun-loving leftist who doesn’t fit into mainstream American gun culture?

That's a question @manishakrishnan.bsky.social set out to answer this summer when she attended a Brutality match, an inclusive firearms competition in Idaho.
The Hard-Left Shooters Leading a Gun Culture Revolution
Earlier this year, I attended a shooting competition for queer, often trans, very online misfits. Then Charlie Kirk was killed.

The "this is a weapon of the enemy" meme is kind of funny because people always use it to say "we should not engage with stuff made by fascists even when it benefits our side" when it's also a comic panel drawn by a fascist

Two men who occupy prominent positions in Canada’s media landscape just travelled to Israel, where they received a briefing from the Israeli government.

Yeah. What are journalism ethics anyway?

Those men were TVO’s Steve Paikin and Global News’ Ben Mulroney:

“Using generative AI to create original, public-facing content (text, video, audio or images) can be fraught and in our view poses the greatest risk to public trust if not managed carefully. We will be extremely conservative when using it.”

Better than I expected, but how about not using it at all?

not only “does not lead”, the word COVID does not once appear in this article
There is no such thing as an intelligent report on increasing school absences due to chronic illness and mental health issues that does not lead with a discussion of the out-of-control virus that causes chronic illness and mental health issues.

@cbcnews.ca has seriously weird biases about COVID. 🙄

While Maryland Gov. Moore posted about Trans Day of Rememberance, his state was torturing a trans woman by denying her hormones and housing her with men--according to her lawyer--for 2 months.

All of this for "hate crime" charges from alleged vandalism of a trans symbol near a Catholic school.

Cannot be stressed enough that Black trans women were immediately sidelined in the early 2020s. Just pushed out of the convo immediately, even though transmisogynoir has always been an emergency and Black trans women are disproportionately targeted
Read this piece I contributed to in 2017. This piece, talking with the friends and families of murdered Black trans women, still haunts me to this day.

Pieces like this are just not printed anymore.

So far in 2017, 21 trans people have been reported as murdered. These are their life stories.

On this Trans Day of Remembrance, I particularly want to stress that the violence we talk about trans people experiencing isn't just murder or domestic abuse or assault.

There is also legislative violence—far too much of it. And we lose lives to that every year too.
The Alberta government putting out a statement for Trans Day of Remembrance two days after using the Notwithstanding Clause to override trans kids rights feels like parody at this point

"Our government remains a dedicated partner of transgender Albertans.”
