I really hope the Oscar predictions I’m seeing are wrong, because if Ryan Coogler doesn’t win Best Director we should probably scrap this whole “awards show” concept.

We know President Trump watches Hannity. Will he take Fox News political strategist Caroline Sunshine's advice and challenge Stephen Colbert to have him on 'The Late Show'? "Based on Colbert's response, we'll find out who's silencing who," she says.

every shot-on-video, made-with-a-camcorder horror movie that's just some teenage friend group fucking around in the woods with some fake blood and a monster mask contains more artistic merit, human joy and creative light than anything AI has ever made or will ever, ever make

Hard disagree. It very clearly has that scene where they give the Simmons character golden lighting and a hero shot while he says ‘the worst thing you can say is good job’ as if it was some huge pearl of wisdom and not a SCIENTIFICALLY proven fallacy. Flick is very much pro-toxicity...

Lately I've seen a few things that make me think other people took different things away from the movie "Whiplash" than I did.

Like, the movie isn't simply *against* obsessive training for excellence and cruel teaching to bring it out, but it sure isn't simply *for* them either.

We've now been doing AI hype for 3-4 years and they're still faking the quality of the outputs of their video generators. A flagrant con job pulled on the internet and everyone who shared this video.
And after all that, the Pitt/Cruise AI fight scene appears to have been just digital BG and face replacement on multi-angle green screen reference videos of two real live human stuntees fighting.

In other words, like most AI hype — it was a con. www.shokunin.studio/blog/2026/2/...

Oh, and of course, how could I forget WHIPLASH. That evil EVIL fucken’ movie. Tho thankfully I saw it at home so others didn’t have to see me seething in rage at a movie that doesn’t understand a lick about jazz or music-making and presents toxicity as aspirational...

fun question: what’s the maddest you’ve ever been leaving a movie theater? not necessarily worst movie you’ve seen, but the one that just pissed you off the most. mine is Batman v Superman

Started watching THE WHOLE BLOOD AFFAIR. For some reason, I thought this was some kinda re-edit but half an hour in it’s all the same (except for the title card). Is this just the two movies back to back with the animated thing thrown in between?

Like AI, this premise hallucinates a reality that doesn't exist. AI does not make "great and watchable" stories. It steals and then regurgitates slop. This is akin to asking someone if they could drop ingredients into a stomach and then claim that chunky, half-digested vomit is a meal. Same logic.
Writers if you could drop your novel or short story into an AI and have it make a great and watchable movie out of your story, and you could sell that movie, would you do it? #writers #WritingCommunity

The constant condescension about ai is another aspect of it that makes me hate it more. The assumption is you can only be against it because you don't understand it like I do. No man. I don't like voluntarily making every human enterprise dependent on a tech run by a tiny group of financial maniacs

I would venture the hot take that John Williams ALWAYS delivers the goods, even when the movies don’t. There’s no such thing as a bad or even mid JW score...
#KingJohnny #GOAT
Hot take: the John Williams score for JAWS 2 is top-notch work
JAWS 2 is a bit more camp, a bit more spectacle, a bit more horror. There are still grounded, human, elements, but they're not given the attention that Spielberg did...the goal here is to create a bigger, badder, grislier, shark film that looks good...and JAWS 2 succeeds pretty admirably at it.
