Anyone who wants to ban social media for under 16s who hasn’t started by getting algorithmic feeds turned off and strong enforcement of existing regulations cares about “being see to care about kids” much more than actually caring about kids

“A ban does not provide the clubs, the youth workers, the safe playgrounds, the links to their families and friends in the offline world that might nourish and support children.”

Well said by Noeline Blackwell from the Children's Rights Alliance.

On @todayfm.bsky.social with @mattcooperlastword.bsky.social and @josefoshea.bsky.social in the next hour talking about why every woman I know will be tuning into the ANTM doc hitting Netflix today.
a woman with long hair is wearing a purple sequined jacket
Alt: Tyra Banks, with sleek straight hair and a sequinned blazer, dramatically drops her chin and raises her eyebrows making a shocked cringe expression, which will be what a lot of will look like watching this show.

On Safer Internet Day, Ireland’s Online Safety Commissioner, said it's “worth sacrificing at the altar of innovation… to have safety in place”.

This is consistent with her thinking one year on from the adoption of the Online Safety Code, which you can read here: www.businesspost.ie/tech/its-abo...

civil society and right groups orgs that often keep a tab on and organise campaigns against these evil corporations are overstretched and underfunded. this internal memo from Meta is insidious and sickening
Facebook plans to put facial recognition in its glasses and they think we’re too stupid to fight back.

Their internal memo: “We will launch during a dynamic political environment where many civil society groups that we would expect to attack us would have their resources focused on other concerns.”
