The most prominent YIMBY mayor is also supporting massive cuts to NY's no-fault collision insurance requirement.

It's time to just admit that deregulation is good when the regulations are bad and this has always been true and training people to oppose deregulation was always dumb.
It honestly feels almost quaint for NIMBY academics to put out a new paper calling YIMBYs market fundamentalist "deregulationists" when a democratic socialist is now the most prominent YIMBY mayor in the country. publiccomment.blog/p/sure-it-wo...
Sure, it works in practice, but does it work in theory?
Another swing and a miss from the supply skeptics

There's a new "For You" algorithmic feed and I tried it out. More time on app than when I stuck to just Following. But it already has me seeing about half of the painfully dumb stuff I see in Discover. So many arguments that used to come and go without my knowing.

Back to just Following.

Incredible that the GOP had a good old-fashioned welfare fraud scandal in MN to drag out all the way to midterms, one indictment at a time

And then all the prosecutors quit bc they were also told to charge a woman for bullying an ICE agent into shooting her wife

Memento guy gainfully employed redacting the Epstein files bc he doesn't know who any of these people are and won't remember the horrors 🥲
sequel to Memento where against all odds, the protagonist has sorted his shit out. now he wakes up to a single message on a whiteboard that says “at a certain point you murdered a bunch of people to avenge your wife, but it’s fine, we’ve already worked through that, now you’re a data manager”

In case y'all are wondering about what right wing talking points will be in the near future. They're gonna find all those 2020 viral posts to show that "the left decided it is okay to box in a car and claim to be afraid of being killed if the car moves"
Hate to be that guy but does anybody at all remember 2020 car weaponization discourse or just me

a cartoon of a man with glasses and a mustache says it 's coming right for us
Alt: a man pretending he is in danger yelling "it's coming right for us" to obtain permission to shoot at something defenseless

Quote this with your favourite game from 1998 NOW, and what your favourite was THEN (if you had one)

Localisations/expansions count, remasters/ports don't. Remakes depend.

None of this excuses Trump, but:

1) There is an OLC opinion that authorizes this, which future AG then OLC head Bill Barr signed in 1989 to authorize the very similar Panama invasion.
2) There is an indictment. It was unsealed under Barr in 2020.
3) Indictment is real. Former top aide pled in June

Many people see themselves as only getting a finite number of large raises in their lifetime. Large inflation spikes take away the benefits of one those raises. Thank you for coming to my TED talk
Some have mentioned unresolved COVID trauma to explain that phenomenon and I remain skeptical.

Personally, I'm a partisan of the "it's just inflation" theory. Human beings seem to love Ze Price Stabilité more than life itself, and appear willing sacrifice *anything* to achieve it.
The biggest blackpill for me was a poll that found that, despite Trump's abysmal approvals and Dems cleaning house lately, an hypothetical 2024 rematch would still be a tossup. The insane reality is that a majority of US voters really experienced the Biden years as some kind of epochal catastrophe!

I actually agree with Will here.

The housing crisis is concentrated in a few specific metros. These are specifically the handful of cities that won the Obama economy when job growth was extremely uneven across geography.

YIMBY is about correcting one of many imbalances created during the 2010s.
Again, unlike almost anyone else in this discussion, I have actually looked at this nationwide at the metro level. I have a pretty good sense of how metros differ here. San Francisco is weird. LA is weird. New York is weird. Boston is weird. There are many more places that aren’t like that.

This man wanted money and PYTs and all he had was an uncanny ability to shout at people

In some ways he's an American hero
Btw about this from Lizza's reply: Olivia and I lived together for 4+ years (4 b'days, 4 Xmases, 4 anniversaries). That's like $1250 of jewelry per celebration. And her apartment was a writing studio. And I made an f-ton then. What was I supposed to do? Get her a lot of Gift Certificates from Kmart?

Your instinct is to dunk but don't, learn instead. If you hate AI/crypto, understand that this quoted attitude is how Democratic policymakers understood their role in enabling everything about tech that you dislike. They truly believe that reckless speculation is foundational to funding good stuff.
“It’s not that I’m for austerity, it’s just that I’m against bailing out AI, crypto, private assets/university endowments, and I’m fine with canceled Thanksgiving flights and missed paychecks as long as Republicans take the blame for it.”

Everybody in the West lives on labor arbitrage with poorer countries, virtually nobody in the U.S. could afford their current lifestyle without that labor arbitrage, but only some post to brag as if they would never partake in global trade in goods and services.
If you have $20k + $500/month to burn and would like your house to be cleaner maybe just pay someone a fair wage to come clean your house occasionally?
Pay $500/month&request on phone app a task to be done-human virtually in your house teleops robot-sometimes succeeds. "In reality, projects like Tesla’s Optimus or 1X’s NEO are less about practical consumer robotics and more about cashing in off of technological hype." futurism.com/future-socie...

Transplants develop these opinions because they see they are extremely popular among nonwhite NYC residents, so dunking on them has no effect because nobody on the left ever dunks on a nonwhite person with the exact same opinions

Only the GOAT could call a gerrymandering initiative "voters picking their representatives" and receive unwavering support
Voters should pick their representatives, not the other way around. Glad to get the chance to talk to some of the volunteers and organizers doing the hard work to make sure Prop 50 passes. This vote will have critical implications, not just for California, but for our entire country.

The current uptrend in Gold prices began in earnest in late '23/early '24 when it was clear that U.S. interest rates were higher-for-longer but fiscal policy wouldn't be adjusted.

Naturally we spent 0% of the 2024 campaign talking about this brewing crisis of confidence
Gold now represents 30% of global reserve holdings
