I must admit, phrasing like this bugs me, because it suggests that Kirby had the same kind of relationship with Joe Simon as he did with Stan Lee.
He didn't. Simon was a business partner; they worked together as equals. Lee was Kirby's employer (or client); Kirby worked for Lee.
