If someone says “gender ideology” one more time like it means something, I’m going to lose my mind.

Stop pretending like there’s not an entire scientific literature on gender identity and gender dysphoria.

They’re trying to ban the teaching of that scientific literature.

The only reason we surrender complete freedom from interference (and our taxes) to a system of government is that it serves the people and makes our lives overall better and more secure.

The social safety net and protection of human rights are primary goods that the governments should deliver.

Read this.

This is a column by a conservative political scientist who clearly articulates that the premature invocation of the notwithstanding clause is a violation of the “Lougheed Doctrine”.

How powers are used matter.

Like me, many Albertans are caught in the middle between those who defend and oppose the government at all costs.

Fortunately, Peter Lougheed provided us with guidelines for how to approach these issues.

Casual reminder that the myth of “pulling yourself up by your bootstraps” is a cruel hoax designed to convince poor people from all walks of life that the injustices they face are a result of their own actions, rather than an oppressive system rigged against them.

Healthcare provision is an essentially moral activity because it should be an "other focused" activity with a goal to alleviate suffering and improve well being. Intentions and outcomes matter.

It requires leadership who have a strong moral compass.

Vaccines are in investment in health. They save lives, they help reduce serious outcomes when we do get sick, they protect the vulnerable, and they reduce stress on our hospitals.

Economically, a healthy population shows up to work, increasing productivity.

Funding vaccines is a win-win.

A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

Pete Guthrie, who left the UCP over their refusal to call a public inquiry, summed it up impressively today.

And he called out the UCP MLA's and ministers who remain silent on it.

Let’s this sink in. Bill 2 overrides:

• The Labour Relations Code;
• The Public Education Collective Bargaining Act;
• The Alberta Bill of Rights;
• The Alberta Human Rights Act;
• The Education Act.

All without vigorous debate or consultation with Albertans.

Using the notwithstanding clause to strip away human rights is an attack on democracy and must be fought with everything we've got. It started with the SaskParty's Bill-137 and now it's Alberta with Bill-2. This is rising authoritarianism (a la USA) and we need to call it out for what it is.
