I wrote about China's climate policy.

Did you know that China has enacted the most comprehensive climate policy in the world?

Well, it has — because it's positioning itself as global hegemon for the climate-changed future.

Trump's climate denial is only a stupid, tragic assist to that end.

Why do Dutch railways invest in shared bikes?

54% of users ride the train more often because of its availability. Without OV-fiets, 8% would use a car instead of the train.

Every euro returns up to €2,40 in societal benefits, with improved accessibility, congestion, and health and safety outcomes.

Also china has the advantage of only fighting a trade war with the US, giving them ample trading partners to pivot to, while the US fights a trade war with *every fucking country on the planet*
a big factor in any CCP calculation right now is that the Chinese public is far more enthusiastic about fighting back in the trade war than the US public was about starting it.

The climate crisis won’t be solved by the same neoliberal logic that caused it. This is why private investments won’t deliver decarbonisation.

It works quite well on smaller, traffic-calmed streets. On a narrow street, the bikes themselves act as traffic calming, creating an urban space welcoming to all, pedestrians and shoppers too. On larger, wider streets this is harder to achieve, and so regular bike lanes work better.

Spain to impose massive fines for not labelling AI-generated content
Spain's government approved a bill on Tuesday imposing massive fines on companies that use content generated by artificial intelligence (AI) without properly labelling it as such, in a bid to curb the use of so-called "deepfakes".

“One mile on a bike is a $.42 economic gain to society, one mile driving is a $.20 loss.”

“Which means that Copenhagen, a city of 1.2 million people, saves $357 million a year on health costs because something like 80% of its population commutes by bike.” #CityMakingMath

Some costs aren’t costs.
One mile on a bike is a $.42 economic gain to society, one mile driving is a $.20 loss
Copenhagen, the bicycle-friendliest place on the planet, publishes a biannual Bicycle Account, and buried in its pages is a rather astonishing fact.

Last year, the Princess Máxima Center for Pediatric Oncology introduced the 'Infuuts', a special bike for children attached to tubes and IVs.

Due to all reactions the bicycle is now produced on a larger scale for use by other hospitals at home and abroad.

By the way, do you gentlebeings know how we almost destroyed the ozone layer by accident?

How we have the early environmental protesters, a well-funded and competent U.S. federal scientific apparatus, and the 1973 energy crisis to thank that we even learned of the problem before it was too late?
The long-term unintended effects of novel synthetic compounds are quite high in my list of potentially serious risks to the well-being and viability of human civilisation.

It is extremely difficult to reliably assess even single chemicals, and almost impossible to predict their interactions.
👏🏻 Tomorrow, French policymakers will debate banning #PFAS across many consumer products.

They could join other countries, such as Denmark, on taking the lead towards a PFAS free economy. Now it’s time for the EU to act! More in our latest blog: chemtrust.org/french_pfas_...

"by mechanising routine tasks and leaving exception-handling to the human user, you deprive the user of the routine opportunities to practice their judgement and strengthen their cognitive musculature, leaving them atrophied and unprepared when the exceptions do arise"
Microsoft's own research confirms something that was already pretty obvious: relying on a text generating machine to come up with answers erodes critical thinking, and is a method favoured by those who never liked doing critical thinking in the first place

A good example of correlation without causation.
The number of gyms has no impact in itself on obesity
If obesity continues to rise, it's because of junk food, car addiction
It's not the gym that will do the trick, but changing the way we live our daily lives: walking, cycling, eating differently…
