No one should be surprised when a planet that accumulates heat more than twice as fast starts to see temperatures go up more than twice as fast.

This isn't rocket science, but we do need more of these NASA satellites. 🌍🛰

To keep us from going blind.

Another insightful visualization of when we could reach daily, monthly and annual temperature marks if the warming acceleration continues (not a prediction, but not impossible either).

Rees is great a putting a lot of information on a (relatively) comprehensible single graph!

As Earth's axis is tilted, Northern Hemisphere winters still happen.

And weather is still varies.

And idiots still use cold weather to deny climate change.
I got a request from a reporter about Trump's statement that "what happened to global warming?" w.r.t. the cold event covering much of the U.S. this weekend. Here is my reply.

Same region since 1854.
Global average temperatures don't show the regional extreme rates of warming.

Sea Surface Temperature around Europe were record high again in 2025.

No one can (falsely) blame El Niño for this.

A crazy amount of heat has accumulated in the Equatorial Pacific Ocean over the past two months.

Hold on to your hats when this reaches the surface with the next El Niño.

Y-axis shows depth, X-axis shows degree longitude (one degree equals 111 km) and colors temp anomalies.

55 years ago. The US introducing significantly strongly regulations on air pollution led to big changes in the cement industry. This from the 1970 minerals yearbook.

Earth's Energy Imbalance was over 10 Hiroshima bombs per second for the 4-year running average (showing less variability) too..

This rate of global heat uptake is impossible for us tiny humans to fathom.

As the first sentence of the paper mentions, it's due to increased greenhouse gas emissions and decreasing aerosols, which leads to a faster net forcing increase and therefore acceleration (= mainly faster Ocean Heat Uptake).

Are we vindicated now?

Listening back to speeches by Bush Sr from June 1989 and Bush Jr from June 2001, they sound remarkably clear and coherent, compared to the current president of United States (and compared to the previous one..)

Here both Bushes speak about sulfur:

The first holidays and new year without parents and grandparents are hard.

It helps me to ponder over generations.

What did their world look like?
What energy did they use?
What changed during their lifetimes?
What didn't?

Tomorrow I'll reflect on this during Climate Chat. 👇

In a sane world, this would be front page news everywhere.
But it will hardly be covered anywhere.

The North Pacific Ocean surface warmed over twice as much over the past 15 years than it did over the preceding 156 years.

That's an increase in warming rate of >2000%!
