I know nothing of climate change. But its complexity is fascinating.
And how should we, our societies, live within biophysical planetary boundaries?

Finally, may I just say?

Sometimes I cannot believe this is all happening.

It’s like living in a horror movie where scientists and their trusty sidekicks are the only ones who know that everyone else seems normal but has been possessed by aliens, or something.

Fossil capitalism is that surreal.

15mins talk by Rahmstorf.
"I was shocked" about the results of their own model comparisons!
Then he reveals new findings he heard at a conference: the most realistic models show over 50% probability of AMOC stopp in intermediate emissions scenarios!

"I am sorry about this", he says <gulp>

Unfollow or block? That guy is really repulsive.
First he lies about what vanWesten said. Gets corrected. Then he lies about his lie. Yuck character.
The bio:
"Truthful and genuine conversations with experts and scientists about climate, health, science, and technology.
Host: @ittefaq.bsky.social"
This post should be deleted as well, as you’ll sure agree to, given that you are, as you say, happy to be corrected.

When I talked with AMOC expert, he said AMOC is in stable condition and only 15% chance of weakening. We don’t know when will it collapse.

Supply chain collapse when?
Car buyers in Indonesia decline.
So the # of people able to buy cars is already shrinking. Due to 🌐and🇮🇩economic Long-Covid, coupled with Putin's war and €€-gas. Both basically fascist politics, and they lower global production/export.
Add climate stress & social unrest...

There's something not being talked about enough at #COP30 that could quietly undermine its #climate commitments: Investor-State Dispute Settlement.

Our Investment Director, Suzy Nikièma, explains what it is, why it matters, and how negotiators and representatives can take action now. 👇

Please have a read. It's a glob. emission scenario, 1.7-overshoot coming back down to 1.5. Starting point is real 2025 temperature, emissions and concentrations. Yes, with DACS, BECCS + Af-reforestation for ~600Gt by 2100, each 5Gt/a from 2060. But main levers: SCR (🐑🐄 removal😁) and💯electrification.
🚨🚨🚨 NEW REPORT ALERT 🚨🚨🚨
@climateanalytics.org has a new report out today that I’m really excited about. It’s all about 1.5ºC...

▶️ Is overshooting 1.5ºC inevitable?
▶️ Can we still get temperatures back below 1.5ºC?
▶️ If so, how?

If you’re interested in our findings, buckle up for a mega thread...

Klingt cool.

Australia’s Revolutionary Hydrogen Powder Is Easier and Cheaper to Use for Clean Energy
A mere month of expected output at 2030 production targets would more than satisfy the entire global hydrogen energy demand.

Good Lord! Hope, someone at ICE keeps a list of employees involved in these raids and publishes it so they can be jailed, and in high security prisons.
As a German, I ask fellow NATO members: isn't it our duty to invoke article 5 en lieu of US citizens? I also ask: when does the military coup 🇺🇸?

When trees can't make sugar bc it's too warm, they also can't run repair processes.
They weaken. Every year a bit more. Then the next storm, drought, pest fells them.
For boreal forests, it's increasing nutrient scarcity due to longer growth season. Then the same dynamics sets in: no repair = death.
Trees can't cope with the rate of change either.
C3 plants=all trees, start respirating more CO2 than they use for photosynthesis at 24C. That's why low altitude tropical and subtropical forests die, even IF they'd have enough water & nutrients. Boreal carbon sink already collapses too, see🇪🇺reports.

Journalists face challenges in reporting on climate interventions because the science is complex and the issues are often multifaceted. But the reporting should avoid sensationalism and try to present risks proportionately, help the public understand uncertainty, and avoid oversimplification.

What gets damaged and polluted in floods skips my mind when I see such images.
All of it incurs more GHG and raw material than was "planned" when we assume an average lifetime of 20years. It comes on top on all the new stuff we [thoughtlessly] build and produce.
