A program in Flint, MI, gave $1,500 to any/all pregnant people and $500/month for the first year of their infant’s life.

Among the benefits, those babies experienced lower rates of prematurity and low birth weight, which resulted in fewer NICU admissions, saving the city of Flint $6.2 million/year.

"[When] the CDC recommended the vaccine for high-risk newborns... The number of perinatal infections stayed stubbornly high.

But hepatitis B infections plummeted after the CDC began recommending a universal dose of hepatitis B vaccine at birth in 1991."
Some people say we don't need to vaccinate every baby at birth against hepatitis B, and should target vaccinations at moms who test positive for the virus. That strategy was tried and failed. But universal vaccination has lowered infection rates by 99 percent.

Each child death is an immense tragedy. This year, more children died of flu than in 15 years.

Child flu vaccines are essential.

“There are likely several contributors to this season’s severity, but a big one is that fewer children get flu shots”
