Star Editorial Board: Doug Ford’s skills training slush fund is a disgrace. It’s also a sign of a much deeper rot in his government
It suggests Ford has established a system where public money is being handed out not based on need or merit but on who you know or who you pay

the post office is a public service. it doesn’t need to make money. public transit doesn’t need to make money. the library doesn’t need to make money. some things exist for the public good and we desperately need lawmakers to stop thinking about them in terms of capitalism. these are not businesses.

"Selling Out Is Bad" is a valuable concept and despite all the baggage and bullshit and elitism it could contain it's actually really good to reinforce the ideal that having integrity when it matters, especially when it hurts, is what good/cool people do. Should be adapted instead of jettisoned.

Wild how Ontario, Nova Scotia & Alberta think banning or ripping out bike lanes will reduce congestion. When you remove alternatives to driving, you don’t get fewer cars—you get only cars. Congestion doesn’t vanish, it multiplies. #bikelanes #cdnpoli

It is so fucking insane that it is essentially illegal, and wildly socially taboo in every corner of power in this country, to not want some random other country's army to be able to massacre civilians every single day for years.

Revoking an artist's visa for their speech, no matter how controversial, doesn't make us safe.

The government should not be policing the artistic or political expression of citizens, visitors, or anyone else.

New data shows the populations of BC, Ontario, and Quebec declined by 9,000 people in the first quarter of 2025 due to anti-immigrant policies. I'm assuming that means the homeless population has declined by 9,000 as well since housing is about "supply and demand" - right? Right?

I was too young to be ware of the Iraq invasion debate but was it this degree of stupid? It can't have been this stupid.

The world isn't silent on Gaza - this is by far the most vocal I have seen the general public on a political issue in my lifetime. I have also never seen a bigger difference between the anger of the public and the inaction of specific institutions and governments. That's the crucial disconnect.

i think most white americans who have never been Policed don’t realize that you are always already a criminal.

the second anyone with institutional power believes you to be, needs you to be, or wants you to be a criminal you are and always have been.
the last few days has been a reminder that people really want to believe that not only is there this real thing called a “criminal,” and that if they need to, anyone can just prove they aren’t one
do people not realize that the past four decades of US policing legislation PR and practice have made the allegation that someone is a “gang member” entirely subject to the whims of the state

These are not people who planned to do this today. But there they are.
