It's that time of year when Americans set up quaint, walkable Christmas villages in their living rooms, dreaming of living in such a cozy place.

Meanwhile, they'll show up to city council meetings to fiercely oppose any plan that would actually build that kind of car-lite community in real life.

Wanna stick it to Trump and live up to the Paris Accords, California? Stop driving so much *and* tell your city council's to build bus and bike lanes instead of throwing away money on car infrastructure.

From LIFE AFTER CARS:

• Name an issue affecting society right now, and there’s a good bet it is caused or at least exacerbated by society’s overreliance on cars
• Our climate and our own health can no longer withstand the assault of the automobile.

With the world heating up [and more pedestrians being killed], why are more SUVs being sold?

“It’s the industry that has driven the demand through huge marketing & advertising campaigns in recent years. SUVs offered the industry a simple way of charging more for a vehicle that does the same thing.”

Just think about what we have let onto Australian city streets with no requirement for additional training of drivers, no additional speed restriction in built up areas and no regular testing on licence renwal
Maybe thats why pedestrian death rates have increased

Trigger warning.

“In crashes, SUVs are more likely to strike vital organs in the core of adults’ bodies & heads of children. Hitting pedestrians above their center of gravity means they’re more likely to be knocked forward & down and then be driven over.”

Plus more likely to hit in the 1st place.

And how much Transportation is hidden in the other categories? What portion of Housing costs is the garage under your apartment building? What portion of Food is the sea of parking surrounding the supermarket? What portion of Healthcare is car-related injury and respiratory disease?
Transportation costs are the second largest burden on American family budgets (17%), after housing (33%)!
To address the affordability crisis, we must create cities with abundant housing of all types (subsidized, social, coop, market rate) and make walking, biking, and taking transit convenient.

Lady, this is your 5th driving offence (4th speeding) in 8 years.

If losing the privilege of driving would cause you exceptional hardship, then perhaps you should have been less careless with that privilege.

I hate the bundling of “sepsis” in a big basket like it’s all the same condition. Some sepsis might benefit from early vasopressors. Most benefit from early antibiotics. But some sepsis/shock benefits from an actual cause being identified and surgically corrected if possible.
The clock’s ticking in septic shock.. but does it actually make a difference?

A driver stopped to let pedestrians cross a sidewalk and was hit from behind by another driver so hard that the stopped car slammed into a pregnant pedestrian killing her & baby. Why is any driver going fast enough at the *entrance of a car park which crosses a sidewalk* to have this happen?
Tragedy. AGAIN. The violence of drivers is increasing by design wo structural changes to ensure 🚶🏻‍♀️safety. This is a result not an accident. Meanwhile a bollard installed in another parking lot presumably to prevent exactly this is being portrayed as damaging cars bc drivers are barrelling into it. 💔

We build aggressive vehicles
We market them recklessly
We celebrate dangerous driving
We design violent streets
We prioritize the driver at all costs
We shame and blame everyone else

Road violence is no accident it’s a direct result of our choices.
