For anyone else whose Mac Outlook 365 has started making regular, massive faux pas through Autocorrect recently: Start typing new email > Edit > Spelling and Grammar > uncheck 'Correct Spelling Automatically'. Literally just called a new collaborator Baby because of this ... 🙄

prewriting someone else’s obituary that tears them apart before dying yourself is some incredible work. i am in awe. she might be dead but it didn’t stop her from eulogizing him with two middle fingers up
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

Yes, some people's legacies are complicated. For example, Watson. After all, though he was racist, don't forget his other traits. For example, he was also sexist. And also anti-semitic. And a data / idea thief. So let's not forget all the different facets.

I am 100% sure they have read it but have zero reading comprehension
I’m really starting to suspect that most of the tech bros haven’t actually read Tolkien, as they certainly don’t understand it.

The gentle hobbits save the “hard men” of Gondor, largely through compassion and selflessness. Not the other way around. The Christian parable is barely hidden!

Dodgers paid immigrants what they’re worth, more than they could make in their home country, and it worked out pretty great
The Dodgers have already made their money back on the money they’ve promised Ohtani and Yamamoto due to ticket/merch sales and Japanese sponsorships.

Any team could have done this!

Ohtani deferred his contract and offered the same terms to everyone!
Guys like Freddie and Ohtani and Mookie are also there because the Dodgers were the organization willing to pay workers their fair market value as opposed to most of the rest of the league working as a cartel to depress worker pay!

Re-watching the ninth inning. It appears Blue Jays Chris Bassit drew #51 on his cap for Dodger Alex Vesia.

What a class act.

I KNEW there was a reason I love this show
I enjoy "The Diplomat," in that it is just a soap opera/romantic comedy hybrid written in such a way that it is exquisitely micro-targeted at my personal demographic of "annoying wonks"

Here’s my hot take that is actually hot; if you have a middle class white cis male straight kid who is struggling starting at 11 or 12 there is a whole right wing internet community targeting them and that’s how early it starts
