I started listening to the latest episode of A Bit Fruity on my commute this morning: Matt and guest June interview Ashley St Clair on her pivot away from the right and MAGA and I can't recommend it enough.

I'm teaching today on working with the media in advocacy and BOY is it fun to make students read some unhinged recent news stories. We've had everything from natural disaster response to Manosphere T-peddlers! #AcademicSky

I've finally started this and the authors do NOT hold back. It opens thus:
"If you wanted to create a tool that would enable the destruction of institutions that prop up democratic life, you could not do better than artificial intelligence."
...and goes OFF from there.

I've just posted my latest essay w/ @jessicasilbey.bsky.social, titled "How AI Destroys Institutions." We argue that AI systems are designed in ways that degrade & are likely to destroy our crucial civic institutions like the rule of law, universities & a free press. papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers....

In Albo's new antisemitism bill, the definition of "hate crime", which underpins the new regime to proscribe "hate groups" like the Nazis, specifically excludes "advocating genocide". That is, advocating genocide is treated as not being a racist hate crime. Now, why would that be?

So about a month back I got into #NHL and decided to go for the @pittsburghpenguins.bsky.social because their coach looks like an accountant and their penguin logo has an evil glint in its eye.

I've just bought a jersey, there's no going back now. What was I thinking.

It's my last day of work before I go on leave for three weeks (!) and I'm really struggling to be productive today. I'm spending a lot of time lying back in my chair looking at my festive decor.

And yes, I *did* take over the airspace of four of my coworkers for this tinsel extravaganza.

Bad: on hold with our learning platform support team.
Good: they've changed the hold music! The audio doesn't clip any more, and it's electronica without sounding like gym music or a corporate flythrough video. I even heard flange on the lead into the break!
