I have a new poem out this week in On Gaia Literary Magazine. "Totem" was a difficult poem to write and to release into the world as it speaks to painful childhood moments that I was good at masking with a smile.

Excited to teach for the first time "I Too Am Fond of Lonely Islands" for solo viola by Elaine Fine. It was inspired by her love of Tove Jansson's novel "The Summer Book." I have read it many times and love it so much. The music is public domain on ISMLP.

I feel so disconnected from any part of my life that isn't work, specifically everything that is in my life as a faculty member in the first week of classes. Even though I have a lot to accomplish over the long weekend, I also want to reconnect with watching bird feeder activity, playing LPs, etc.

I was going through some old pictures. There needs to be some kind of content alarm that sounds when you are about to uncover your middle school band picture.

I was 48 hours into a successful sugar purge until I found some mini peppermint patties. Oh well, starting over at zero hours since processed sugar.

Is there a word for having a journal (or 10) that is/are so beautiful and special that you don’t want to write in it? (Asking for a friend.)

Trying to bring order to the paper, files, and books in my home office. I know for certain that the organizing supplies I just ordered will do the trick. (I sit on a throne of lies.)

During the Christmas gig season, it is essential to have a riveting audiobook that makes you look forward to being in the car. I'm glad Patricia Cornwell's latest Scarpetta book is available.
