I have a new poem out this week in On Gaia Literary Magazine. "Totem" was a difficult poem to write and to release into the world as it speaks to painful childhood moments that I was good at masking with a smile.

I hope my students didn't walk by the workroom and hear me cussing at the copier. At this point in the semester, that thing is a son of a nutcracker.

I intended to make healthy food choices today, then someone brought me a bag of Oreos as a belated birthday present. So, other choices were made.

I feel a bit lonely on here. I get almost no engagement, and I certainly don't at the other place. 😔

I didn't need more journals. I bought more journals. No regrets.

In the 25 years that I have been teaching music history, this is the lowest percentage of research papers turned in. And I gave them the most hand holding of any semester. So discouraging.

Not a promising start for the student who emailed me questions about the music history research paper they are working on and misspelled the composer's name throughout.

For the 1st time, I hosted an online co-writing session for my music history students who are working on a research paper. I scheduled it during the usual meeting time. It went really well. I might offer a voluntary evening session as well. Always looking for new pedagogical tools. #Academicsky

My publisher is having a sale. So, it would be a great time to pick up a copy or two of The Sound Hope. It's only 68 days until Christmas. mcfarlandbooks.com/product/the-...

Saddened to hear of the death of the great Dame Patricia Routledge. Thank you for the laughs and great characters. Keep answering that slimline phone, Hyacinth Bucket (Bouquet).

One of the reasons that art endures is because it has timeless messages that continue to speak to us. The prints of Kollwitz and their meanings about the dangers of hate are as relevant today as ever. I hope you find meaning in reading about these prints.

I'm excited to have my poem "Memento Mori" published this week by Phil Lit. It's a slightly creepy poem about pianos and metronomes. Enjoy, and please read the entire wonderful issue at simplebooklet.com/phillitfall2...
