Just to restate my stance.

1. I have seen several projects collapse due to forcing artists to use GIT for art assets.

2. Artists need instant sharing of latest by timestamp, never merges.

3. Art resource files are massive. PSD files, Substance files and Zbrush files are hecking huge...

The actual story is a lot less dystopic than the headline. I hate to say it, but this kind of thing might actually make running exciting enough for me to take it up. Especially if there's a scoring system and leaderboard for the "prey" 😂

I wonder what I'll end up writing in this. The cover is so pretty that I almost don't want to sully it

Your friend came to you because they respect your knowledge and opinion, and outsourcing the answer to a machine is lazy and rude. Just answer them yourself.

Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

I don't know how niche this one is, but: if your friend opens up to you about something in private, you do not by default have their consent to share it with other people. Not even your romantic partner(s). That's THEIR secret, not yours, until they say otherwise.
Do you have any extremely niche, but serious, ethical stances?

people playing music/videos on their phone speakers in public is more than just mildly annoying and is instead a leading indicator of the decline of community and empath

Many of us dream of a codebase that is both beautiful in form and correct in function. I'm under no illusion that I'll ever produce any such thing, that I can do better than approximate, but I still try! Closer to ideal IS better than farther. Software is details and details matter; details add up.

Just did hours of boring but necessary code. The game doesn't look any different yet! But it will tomorrow.

Sometimes I come across a "hot topic" in my field for the Nth time and I think about writing something long-form to get my knowledge and experiences and opinions out there. But then I remember: I'm not confident that enough of my target audience will actually *read* it when they look at it.

The real generational divide is people who refuse to watch a video if it could be an article versus people who refuse to read an article if it could be a video

I sometimes get myself worked up at how much I feel like the concept of proper blogging has been left by the wayside. Vlogs are similar, but video is not the same medium or experience at all and not the one I want. I want to *read* something someone carefully thought about and *wrote*.

AAA video games:
- can be "good enough" rather than perfectly correct (but "good enough" is still a high bar and users can get VERY upset!)
- soft real time, *on the user's consumer hardware*
- potentially serves millions of global users
- expected to endure
- won't cause any deaths on failure
There is a vast difference in the architecture of a software-intensive system whose output must always be accurate and precise versus one whose output can just be good enough.

Did a spam call write this
my most unpopular opinion is that it's a sign of defective moral character if you point blank refuse to answer phone calls from unknown numbers. it's not that hard to hang up on spam/scammers, and you are probably missing important calls!

What's it mean if you read books and don't listen to *any* podcasts?
dating apps should just make men list their top 5 podcasts

The seeming inability of some gamedevs to follow extremely basic instructions that help the whole team work faster/better boggles my mind. How hard is it *really* to do things like "only submit your work to source control through this tool that runs data validation so we don't block others"?
