Here is my hot 007/James Bond take: Abandon continuity completely. Every movie, new Bond, new director, and it can be a period piece, it can be contemporary, it can be in the future, Bond could be a xenomorph, who gives a fuck? Make it a showcase for auteur directors and young up-and-coming stars.

There were mid 2010s meetings of consultants and think tanks in which the right wing of the US & UK openly made the case that attacking trans people should be their next propaganda opening after the door was shut on gay marriage. We have receipts! Liberals and centrists are falling for a called shot

'Oh but people have to do this because places like TikTok will censor you if you don't' Well then maybe there should be more pushback against it! Maybe TikTokers should use their platforms to raise some shit against TikTok!
the forced self-censorship gibberish we all have to do on social media now is having a devastating effect on the way people communicate with each other. nobody in a healthy society is saying "unalived"
Do you have any extremely niche, but serious, ethical stances?

See, I could see being blindsided by Musk's descent if we were talking about one of the earlier tesla models, but by the time anyone could actually buy a cybertruck he was fully mask-off.

"For the CEO of a company that makes a product that a lot of Americans buy and use on a daily basis to put us in the middle of everything because of his controversies," Cybertruck owner Jose Reynoso said of Elon Musk. He says he uses the truck for marketing.

in addition to "discomfort does not equal harm" I wish people also realized that sometimes (actually, most of the time) if there's something uncomfortable in a narrative, it's supposed to be uncomfortable. yes, even if its "romanticized", the author usually trusts you understand it's uncanny.

One of the most interesting things about modern fandom culture to me is the permission gap between canon and fan work, where it's all but explicitly stated that fans aren't responsible enough to be trusted with themes present in the mainstream, commercial source material.

We are very disappointed in Char Aznable’s decision to drop an asteroid on Earth. It is unclear how freeing souls weighed down by gravity will help fix the current economy and the cost of living. We are hoping Neo Zeon is willing to work on a bipartisan agreement to settle things going forward

"Transphobic" like "racist" was coined to describe a reality and a moral valence came along with that description and it turns out a lot of people love the reality - the behavior, the attitude, the structural harm- but will violently resist the idea that their lessers may morally evaluate them.
Sorry luv, that's definitely transphobic, that's extremely transphobic

seein a lot of banjo hate and frankly its sad cuz you're basically saying you hate a whole genre, banjo is a pillar of it and like yea the genre is mostly dead nowadays but theres still indies out there making it work and people play the classics, like banjo and bluegrass are very important to music

And this is the line people ran with on when bathroom bills were first introduced post-obergefell and it was massively successful in squashing them, even in red states!
It really would have been the easiest and most straightforward counter: All people deserve the right to bodily autonomy and self-expression, including trans people. Bathroom bans do nothing to keep women or girls safe and it’s not the role of a President to dictate the rules of high school sports.

For @truthout.org yesterday I wrote about how the government's lies about tylenol and autism reminds me a lot of the government's lies about trans people.

As a trans journalist, I see corporate media outlets as inconsistent in their treatment of right-wing disinformation.

What gets me the most is that we know that many/most grievance parents are also Autistic which means if they're pushing a cure, we will continue to be born AND continue to suffer. No one gets what they want here.

Radical acceptance of neurodiversity w/ universal accommodation is the ONLY solution.

Hey folks. Here's one of the animations I did showing an O'Neill Colony - basically a hollowed out cylinder in space. This one is 35km long and 9km across and spins once per minute (if I remember) to provide 1g gravity.

Okay, there's not just the violence, but also power? Lets use trans people as an example.

Which matters more: Some trans people whose tweets you saw that annoyed you or the billion dollar media enterprise pushing 100 stories about how trans people are evil a day?
there are forms of violence that are rendered invisible and normalized by society and once you notice them, you will start to go quietly insane

No, people aren’t whining about the kids not being horny enough. That’s a malicious misrepresentation and you know it. People are whining about the kids echoing socially conservative and toxic views on depictions of sexuality in media, because the ability to publicly discuss sexuality is crucial.

all that really leaves is "take the cops' money away", or, in some cases, "dissolve the police department itself". in some cases it's significantly easier for a local government to do ether the entire department than it is to fire a single cop or tweak the contract to reduce police immunity.
