Propaganda works - this is also why conservative oligarchs are investing so much to purchase trusted media brands and convert them into propaganda outlets
Excellent piece from @gelliottmorris.com on how your news diet affects your politics and how you view the Trump Regime. Those with a heavy diet of conservative media view Trump favorably, while those with a diet of non-conservative media view him unfavorably.

Happy anniversary of January 6th. This is what you get when you don't remove perpetrators of a coup d'état or treason from public life quickly.

Will 2026 be the year when the EU closely monitors with grave concern the US invasion of Greenland?
MILLER: The US is using its military to secure our interests unapologetically in our hemisphere. We're a superpower. It's absurd we'd allow a nation in our backyard to become a supplier of resources to our adversaries

TAPPER: Sovereign countries shouldn't be able to do what they want?

One of my biggest takeaways from living in Tokyo was that the city is incredible in spite of the fact that 95% of the architecture is unremarkable.

It makes the years-long design review process for a single apartment building in the U.S. seem all the more frivolous.
Tokyo is a city that makes the argument that architecture is irrelevant.

What matters more is urbanism:

The street network

The density

The freedom of uses

The clustering around rail

Platí tohle i o Česku a zdejších gender studies?
kind of darkly funny that "gender studies" is the stereotypical "useless degree" because gender studies will help you understand a large and important chunk of the current psychosis in american life

Necessary coordination means disagreements which will lead to very public fights or they'll never be solved.

"How do we reorganise our armies so we can fight Russia without US assistance" is a question that needs to be asked out loud if you want any hope of answering it.

The idea that European leaders were publicly praising Trump while secretly working to decouple our military from the US has always been such cope.

Sure, you can negotiate free trade agreements (<0.5% of GDP) in secret but when has a bigger project ever been successfully done "behind the scenes"?

The US has loads of military installations in Europe. It likes to pretend this is for Europe’s protection, but this is only partly true. Ramstein, as mentioned here by the Greens’FP expert is a good example. If the US decides to attack Greenland, throwing out US mil installations should be discussed

I sure hope we as a society never again need answers to questions that haven't already been answered often enough to have developed meaningful statistical correlation to the question.

And I really hope we never need to change or improve those answers. God forbid we ever need to ask new questions

Among the explanations for the timing of the invasion of Venezuela, I don't see much mention of an important 5th anniversary coming up on Tuesday.

It's hard to keep track of all the things we need to be distracted from.

“Europeans enjoy more free time than Americans, a higher life expectancy and lower levels of inequality – all with roughly comparable productivity” - evropská čísla zhoršuje paradoxně východní Evropa.
The story of Europe’s economic decline while US is 'soaring' is everywhere.

But it is wrong. It is a myth.

Europe delivers more leisure, longer life expectancy, less inequality than the US.

Gabriel Zucman dismantles the myths.
Decline, what decline? The myth of dying Europe
There is a widespread view that, by comparison with the USA, Europe is in economic and social decline. But, Zucman argues, it's not true

Somehow even after all this time, people don't believe there is a (far from perfectly, but) functioning ukranian state and military and somehow it's still on the russian good will or whatever.

(Also they seem to not understand having a functioning military is not easy.)
