I'm from Florida and this is so emblematic. Story of my early adulthood. Ban abortion, flood the state with drugs, tank education standards (i.e. literate kids go to private school and in another state), sow GGW ethos, and thereby create a crop of minimum wage workers and girls to be trafficked.

When I was in Russia there was an old woman who would kneel for hours by the metro station entrance with a few battered icons around her asking for a few rubles to not starve. I saw war veterans with styrofoam taped to their leg stumps. All of this in "Holy Russia"
For my first piece back from vacation, I blogged about the people who moved from Texas to Russia to escape gay people and then found out living in Russia kind of sucks:
