Starmer should have stuck with Gray. The post-election mishaps have continued long after she'd gone, which suggests she wasn't the problem.

In hindsight, that seems quite an insightful move on their part. Send one dodgy potential criminal as ambassador to another dodgy criminal. Birds of a feather and all that.
The difficulty for Starmer, McSweeney and co re the "discovery" of Mandelson's bad character is that they appointed him as ambassador to Trump in the belief that his bad character would be an asset

I've seen a dozen hot takes on today's breaking news about Mandelson demanding to know why Starmer appointed him ambassador to the USA if he now wants him stripped of his peerage. Surely, the answer is obvious: it's breaking news today & I doubt Mandy told KS that he was leaking docs etc 20 yrs ago.

They've stopped people from using drugs safely.

It's time to legalise *and* regulate.

This is an absolutely incredible example of someone telling on himself, because for almost all of his life Matthew Goodwin craved nothing more than exactly this. He boasted for years of being the “youngest full professor of politics”, and then applied for post after post at more prestigious unis.
Reform politician Matthew Goodwin tells the Sunday Times that he would "rather shoot myself in the head" than be at dinner with Nick Robinson and Mary Beard, and the last thing the ex-acadenuc would ever have wanted would be to be a Professor at some Oxford college "backwater with zero influence"
You dont win 'em all! Reform's Matt Goodwin in Sunday Times: 'Most .. people criticising me are nerds. The last thing I want is to be at some dinner party table with Nick Robinson & Mary Beard. I'd rather shoot myself in the head'. Hang on, I'm not THAT bad!Nerds sometimes have a (thoughtful!) point.

The US Holocaust Museum being more outraged by Tim Walz saying that, like Anne Frank, children today are in hiding from armed agents of the state, than they are about the fact that children are in hiding from armed agents of the state, is why Holocaust remembrance culture is in crisis.

There's a solid(ish) comparison to be made with the SDP in the early 1980s. In December 1981 the the SDP-Lib Alliance was polling around 50% and newspapers were excitedly talking up the prospect of them forming the next government.

They did well in 1983 GE but nothing like as well as prediction
