I think pundits ought to stop framing the news as Trump's Ukraine 'peace deal' and frame it as it really is: a marriage proposal from Trump's US to Putin's Russia, with Ukraine as a proposed dowry.

Very much this. If a phrase has too much political baggage hanging on it, don't use it.
Instead, ask people if they want a nice environment to live in. The answer will be yes. Then cross out the options that prevent such an outcome.
