I've been leaning towards Tubi being the streaming service, and now I think it's official: they have Season 1 and Season 2 of one of the best science and technology comedy shows ever made… "Look Around You".

Thanks, Tubi. Thubi.

Look Around You
This unique combination of parody and homage to early 70s/80s British educational programs examines different scientific topics in each episode.

There is a passage from The Ministry for the Future that keeps coming back to me, where Kim Stanley Robinson explains that there are only 500 or 1,000 powerful people in the whole world who are preventing us from properly fighting climate change or simply striving for a better world.

This is pretty awesome to see too.

Thanks to all the guardians of the memory of BBC TVC, and all who sensed I was in need of cheering up today. These have certainly been a very welcome shot in the arm. ☺️
Tour of Studio 3 at Television Centre, for all you sickos. (Among the things recorded in this room were Doctor Who’s The Feast of Steven.)

Wonderful. 🥰

So many I could watch - and occasionally have watched - endlessly. But none I love quite so much as The Leisure Hive.

Still entirely valid 2½ years on. Not that I’m going to hold my breath.

chatgpt is much like an improv comedy group

1) you are the audience, giving it prompts
2) it produces things roughly shaped like your prompt
3) it is trained to respond with Yes, And
4) it has the factual accuracy of improv
5) it does not understand comedy
This is fascinating: www.reddit.com/r/OpenAI/s/I...

Someone “worked on a book with ChatGPT” for weeks and then sought help on Reddit when they couldn’t download the file. Redditors helped them realized ChatGPT had just been roleplaying/lying and there was no file/book…

This is a fantastic article with a lot of simple explanations in it of everyday counterintuitive bullshit, just as you’d expect from Cory Doctorow.

Yeah AI is a bubble. But what sort of bubble? Who puffed it up? And what do we do?

Great thread.

As in so many realms, “doesn’t matter” is so much more usefully framed as “doesn’t matter as much as you seem to think”.

Everything matters. But balance is everything and I’m instantly wary of anyone suggesting we should bump *people* down the list.

I keep the birthdays of old Doctor Who actors memorised so I don't panic if I see them trend on that day.

There’s only one downside I can see to this plan : if it nixed the prospect of our ever seeing Paul McGann return as The Doctor.

Also, heck - Hugh Laurie as The Master. Just *two minor* flaws. I’ll come in again.
If somehow I was magically put in charge of Doctor Who I'd cast Kathy Burke as the Doctor, and i'd reboot it from the start. I'd chuck out all the old, over-complicated rubbish and make it about mysterious, cantankerous, strange old Doctor Who having glorious and scary adventures.
