An Oak Tree a Day Bonus ll
Not an oak, is it a tree? This is not how you want to prune your sycamore tree. They are the drama queens of the tree world & this one will most likely come back if there aren’t beetles
💨You just notice things. Inflatable tube? California #nativePlants

Another Quercus lobata 🙄. This one comes with a nice bench & is next to what looks like a natural stream but is really a ramped up seasonal creek for flood control. 6’ wall for size reference. California #nativePlants #nature

The major winter storm and cold outbreak in the central & eastern U.S. this weekend will be most notable not for record cold, nor heavy snowfall, but instead for very heavy ice accumulations that will cause widespread/severe electrical infrastructure and travel disruptions.

Another old Quercus lobata (valley oak) The old guy has heart rot which could be an issue in an area w people but here he can slowly drop limbs and continue to be the best. There’s a metal cutout of a crow on his branches if you’re paying attention. California #nativePlants #nature

Can someone on the ground near a detainment camp start a volunteer transport network? People could sign up to drive refugees home, one leg of the trip at a time. Animal rescues have moved dogs cross-country this way for years.
Yesterday, I drove refugees that had been shipped off to Texas all the way back home to St. Paul

Seeing them reunite with their families reminded me this is their home.

So keep sending them to Texas. I’ll keep driving ‘em back and introducing them to Bucc-ee’s and KC barbecue along the way.

Just got a call from my daughter’s school here in north Hollywood that ICE has been seen near the campus. Heading over there now, hoping that’s not the case. But word is they’ve been all around NoHo and Burbank today so everyone stay safe and watch out for your neighbors.

In some parts of central and southern California, the first portion of the 2025-2026 rainy season has been both record warm and record wet! How does this fit into the bigger picture regarding California climate on a warming Earth?
A record warm & record wet start to rainy season in parts of California: What's the bigger picture?
The October through December 2025 period was record warm across much of California, and also record wet in central and southern parts of the state. But California has also experienced record-breaking dryness and drought in recent years. So, how does this all fit into what we know about California cl
