Same with the response to Bishop Mariann’s homily.
one thing that’s annoyed me about the response to ‘wake up dead man’ is atheists saying things like “damn i wish all religious people/priests were like this”. like, go to church. it’s full of them😭

It’s also canonically foreshadowed in both nativity accounts: the gifts of the Magi include grave goods and the language of wrapping Jesus in bands of cloth is the same language Luke uses to describe his preparation for burial.
ok, so this is something I've thought a fair bit about, I've never been a practicing Christian but like, I know the lore

it's literally on a narrative level flashing forward to the death of a person while celebrating their birth and foregrounding them as a baby

it's just obviously morbid!
Apropos of nothing, using the cross as a symbol of Christmas is weird? Like, the cross is a Good Friday/Easter thing. You already have the star of Bethlehem and all of the other seasonal stuff.

That's like using the Magen David at Hanukkah; sure you can but the menorah and dreidel are right there.

My last Christmas without a collar was lovely. Chill. Low key. Relaxing. 😌

Both. Same with Pentecost and Easter.
Is Epiphany the final day of the celebration of Christmas or the first of a new thing? Discuss.

My 3 year old is “reading” his Bible:

“And Mary took Jesus out of the water. And Jesus saw a fire. And Jesus was afraid of the bugs. And Jesus he was afraid of the big wave. And Jesus went up the big mountain AND THERE WAS FIRE”

I saw some Instagram post about human-centered preaching vs God-centered preaching and it was really good but I can't find it.

paraphrasing:

Human-centered: Joseph trusted in God's plans. Be like Joseph
God-centered: This is what God did with Joseph's confusion. This is what God does with ours.

A critique that has been leveled at my sermons is that they don’t contain many action items. No “now go and do this…” moments. I think this is ultimately because I care more that people hear what God has done and is doing, than moral instruction from the pulpit.

Others are making this point and it’s accurate.
I don't think it's cold water at all. I rather suspect young men going trad are doing so because they want to live a life of justifiable dominance over a bang maid, not because they have any especially pious disposition that would encourage them to join the clergy.
December 17, 2025 at 1:09 AM
This is wild, and cold water on the “young people are all becoming trads” narrative. For comparison,The Episcopal Diocese of New York has more than that in formation for the priesthood and we’re *only* 170 congregations and 42,000 members. 📕
