longing once again for a world where more people are capable of grasping complex and inscrutable concepts like “it’s still really really good for Democrats if they *lose* by a much smaller margin than expected in Tennessee”

Speaking as someone who was cast as "alarmist" for accurately predicting the GOP mainstreaming of outright fascism, that sort of attitude is the flip side of those earlier alarmism accusations.

These folks are so petrified of change and the unknown that they wishcast a permanent status quo.
The main thing that's annoying and offensive about this is it's usually not framed as simply a factual observation about all the obvious hurdles, as if anybody needs reminding. It's how it's said in a mood of cynical, condescending hostility to even advocating for accountability. Ditto impeachment.
While this usually isn't the intent, "no one will ever be held accountable for this" doomerism is an excuse not to try.

There'll be at least some accountability if enough Americans work for it. And this time really is different. Doesn't guarantee the aftermath will be, but it increases the chances.

"Don't follow illegal orders" would be more meaningful if Democrats had prosecuted literally any of the prominent war criminals of the last 30 years instead of, you know, fucking campaigning with them

Being among the first interrogated and ultimately fired by DOGE, I certainly felt we were facing the business end of a right-wing conspiracy theory 🧵
DOGE was not a money-saving effort. It was an effort to chase down and prove right-wing conspiracy theories. They went after USAID to prove conspiracy theories about foreign aid. Then they went after SSA to, again, pursue conspiracy theories about Dems paying "illegals" to vote. 1/2
All DOGE accomplished was purging critical government staff, handing private data to outsiders, and sentencing thousands in developing countries to death by gutting USAID.

I don’t say this lightly: if there were any justice in this world, the people responsible for this devastation would be in jail

Twitter pays people based on engagement (views, retweets, comments, etc). It appears that many MAGA accounts are based abroad and they use AI technology to generate low-effort rage bait.

My guess is that this will get worse as AI tech improves. For instance, fake videos of minorities doing crime.

Below 30% approval on inflation/cost of living means the disapproval is cutting into Trump’s base.

One silver lining to this dystopian post-truth world is that liars don't try to be clever about their lies anymore.

There's no conception of truth to blend in with. Might as well just lie as boldly and stupidly as you want. There will be some bubble that accepts it.

It makes them lazy and sloppy.

My honest theory is that everything is moving too fast for Trump. His only strategy was to delay until he didn't have to, and that isn't working.

He might just let Pam Bondi get thrown to the wolves as she gets the impossible task of satisfying the public and protecting elites from accountability.

Remember. A vote is NOT NEEDED to release the Epstein Files.

A vote is needed to FORCE the release of the Epstein Files

You might not have caught what just happened on the Senate floor, but the Senate just “deemed as passed” the Epstein resolution.

That means as soon as it arrives from the House, it automatically passes the Senate (with no amendments) and heads to the President’s desk.

Wow.
November 18, 2025 at 10:47 PM
Wait, did a Democrat accidentally vote against releasing the Epstein Files and then change their vote?
November 18, 2025 at 7:36 PM
Looks like it'll probably be a unanimous vote for the release of the Epstein Files in the House.

Republicans know they can't oppose it no matter how much they furiously complained about it all morning and urged the Senate to rewrite the bill.

It’s pretty simple.

When you do a huge armed midnight raid on an apartment building rounding up and terrorizing children and later find out there were no criminals there everyone involved resigns in shame and we have loud showy Congressional hearings.

No one should have to face such threats.

It would’ve been nice if Greene had realized this before she amplified and endorsed calls for executing Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama.

Noticed Epstein was paying for Google search result poisoning and attending hacker conferences

Let me get this straight: The Right has spent years calling trans people, drag performers, queers, teachers and librarians "groomers" -- but Epstein and Trump are NOT child molesters, because *checks notes* their victims were young-looking 15-year-olds?!

MeToo 2 needs to be more aggressive than last time. Lawyers. Tribunals. Make Harvey Weinstein a drop in the bucket.
Also I complained on social media about getting harassed constantly at cons and an adult woman told me that complaining about it was like complaining about my maid stealing from me and I should be aware of my pretty privilege and yes that has lived rent free in my brain ever since

It’s not over but when it is I will never, ever forget the “serious people” who buckled and compromised and abetted the torture and crime and murder for a fascist lottery ticket.
I think the core point is that trump had a honeymoon in which capital/media/political opposition all decided he was the one true voice of america. he did a lot of horrible things with that (including murdering 100s of thousands), but didn't consolidate power...
