We’re about to see a heartbreaking increase in pet surrenders on top of already high surrender numbers. If you can, donate pet supplies or to pet pantries.
As someone who has been on SNAP benefits in the past, what will happen Nov. 1 is that people will start diverting other funds towards groceries. They will choose to feed their families over making credit card payments, paying medical bills, car payments, etc. This is going to affect a lot of things.
Donald Trump and the Republican Party want to kill you, your family, and your pets.

seems to me that those democrats inclined not to fight perceive themselves as living through a somewhat ordinary cycle of presidential overreach and backlash and not something much more significant and dangerous

“CHUCK SCHUMER” IS A FULL SENTENCE!
But what do you think about current Dem leadership and are you calling for a change after this massive failure? That's power you have right now.
We should be asking this and related questions of all Senate Dems. Stay tuned for more tomorrow.

Tonight, I am voting no on a procedural vote on an appropriations deal that would re-open the government. Since July, I have been clear: to earn my vote, Republicans would have to do something to bring down the cost of health care for working and middle-class Michiganders. (1/4)

@alsobrooks.senate.gov I eagerly await your concurrence.
I’ve voted 7 times to reopen the government in a way that holds Trump accountable for his lawlessness and prevents a health care crisis.
I’m prepared to work toward a compromise, but this “deal” before us does not come close to meeting those terms. Voting NO.

He's not just a senator. He's the *leader*. His job isn't his personal vote. His job is to unify and lead his caucus against the regime.

Important to note that Van Hollen alone can deny unanimous consent for procedural steps to speed things along and chew up a lot of time.
Let's see if he's just talk or if he'll take action (to be clear I hope he does)

Instead of fighting to save people's healthcare, Senate Dems agreed to cave in return for: 1) Worthless promises, and 2) Paying out the salaries of the elderly Dem reps who selfishly ran for reelection and promptly died in office, thus guaranteeing that harmful legislation passed in the first place!
At least the widows of the dead Democratic Reps. will get their cash. (priorities, sigh)

Democrats have to stop bailing out Republicans from facing the consequences of their own policies. And yeah, that means they have to stop sparing voters from experiencing what GOP government truly means.
Every time Dems step in, it only emboldens the GOP & they make it even worse the next time.
Every time Dems step in, it only emboldens the GOP & they make it even worse the next time.
So Democrats get:
1. A CR that will prevent the GOP from facing the wrath of Americans for a shutdown over the holidays
2. A coupon for one (1) meaningless ACA vote that will fail
3. An end to the illegal RIF/SNAP moves that are already before the courts
Those all seem like wins for the GOP.

Any “deal” that ends with Dems just getting a pinky promise in return is a mistake.
The American people are suffering because Republicans refuse to stop healthcare costs from skyrocketing. An agreement that doesn’t fix that reality falls massively short.

Chuck Schumer must be a spelunker because he loves caves.
SCOOP: Schumer was more involved than reported with the attempted cave on the government shutdown. The Gang of 8 Senate Dems had his approval & he was getting daily updates.
In Thursday's caucus meeting, the Gang claimed they had 10 votes to cave. The caucus went nuts, leading to the new proposal.
