Just spent 2 weeks in Colombia. Tourism is booming amid incredible progress in turning old coca fields into productive farms growing chocolate & other crops and in controlling guerilla groups. Trump’s comments are reckless.
TRUMP: Colombia is very sick too. Run by a sick man who likes making cocaine and selling it to the US, and he's not gonna be doing it very long

Q: So there's will be an operation by the US in Colombia?

TRUMP: Sounds good to me

Their messaging is so fucking incoherent. Maduro was an illegitimate leader who lost in 2024, which is why we're replacing him with his VP instead of the person who won in 2024. We did this to stop fentanyl, which is why he's indicted for cocaine.

We're also occupying Venezuela via Zoom call.

When will a foreign country indict Trump?
CNN: Venezuela is a sovereign nation. Why is it okay for the US to go in, arrest its leader, control its oil, and take over for a time?

REP. CARLOS GIMENEZ: It's okay because that leader happened to be under indictment here in the US

Mamdani acting like an elected official who understands that is no “turning the page” on corruption & authoritarianism.

Take note Democrats.
Just flat-out declaring that everything Adams did as mayor after the indictment—in the final fifteen months and five days of his term of office—was presumptively corrupt, and undoing everything that's in his immediate power to undo with a single stroke of the pen.

This is the way.

So you’re telling me that when your country welcomes talented people from around the globe, and brings them together in world-class universities, they make discoveries that save lives? Interesting.

It was such a joy to celebrate Hanukkah with Mandy, Kathryn and their son, Gideon. As Jewish New Yorkers across our city prepare to light candles and mark the seventh night today, I wish you and your families a Hanukkah full of light and love.

His courage gives me hope amidst the horror and darkness. Muslims and Jews are not enemies. Our futures, in the Middle East and beyond, are intrinsically bound.

I'm a privacy absolutist except I am strongly in favor of speed and red light cameras, as long as the data is used only to assess tickets and not used for police purposes or surveillance. Yes, this is possible.
See also: debates about speed cameras.

There's a problematic reflex among some progressive reformers to move from "conventional criminal legal responses are bad" to something too close to "accountability in general is bad."

I think (as Jamelle argues here) it's rooted in not thinking abt victims.
