I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE.

This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined.

It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

Holy shit. This is *the* gold-standard measurement of atmospheric CO2 -- the one in all the charts.
The Trump administration is planning to cancel its lease at a government laboratory in Hawaii, a site where scientists support key observations of surging greenhouse gas levels in the atmosphere, according to a list obtained by Democratic members of Congress and shared with The Post.
Trump moves to close facility that helps track planet-warming pollution
The lab is connected to the Mauna Loa Observatory, where scientists gather data to produce the Keeling Curve, a chart on the daily status of atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations.

The insurrectionists have seized power. They are purging their enemies.

Does the broader public have a sense of how extraordinary this moment is?
Fired Jan. 6 prosecutors were told they were terminated "based upon your actions in the prosecution of persons relating to events that occurred at or near the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021," and cited Trump calling it a "grave national injustice."

vladikcomper on the SGDK discord has created an amazing and ridiculous mod for Sonic the Hedgehog (MD) in which quality degrades to different resolutions/numbers of colors unless you fill your blast processing meter up. It works real time in wide screen in a smaller rom size than the original game.

Trump declaring an "energy emergency," aggregating more powers to himself so as to ram through unnecessary & deadly fossil-fuel development, is all the more infuriating becuz the Dems have refused to declare a climate emergency, leaving the space wide open for occupation by authoritarian interests.

If there's anything I hope young creatives take from David Lynch, it's to reject the modern IP-driven impulse to explicitly explain and cleanly categorize the logic behind every single event and decision inside and outside of a story at least some of the time.

I wrote this post about the illusion that indie is a 'superior development style' about a week ago and waffled on whether or not it was still relevant enough to post. Aftermath putting up a podcast on the same topic today convinced me to finally shove it out the door.

it's past time for a lot of people, esp in the left media commentary sphere, to give up on this idea of speaking to a broader audience that never seems to actually materialize and operate within the people who actually care and engage with what you do.

A big challenge for games history for the next 10 years will be decentering both the "Indie Darling" histories and AAA console histories, as consoles (hopefully) become less relevant and we realize conversations shouldn't be dominated by which indie or AAA game sold 5,000,000 copies
Here we go, something I've been drafting for a long, long time: how the US-centric approach to video games and their history / culture basically gaslights us who come from other realities:
