Since we’re already talking about it, I might as well let the cat out of the bag. I’ve been thinking about doing another Anime Lockdown, but I’m not sure we’d get enough panelists to do even a half day. Last time I had to shorten the schedule due to lack of submissions.

Sometimes I kind of get the whole fandoms thing, because I’m just kind of a lonely person and common interests are one of the only ways I get social interaction with anyone.

Sometimes they get weird or turn bad, though :(

I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about the problems with modern computers lately. The hardware is better than ever but the problem is the software.

Our devices have become time vampires, designed to capture our attention, often at the expense of our mental health.

Alt: a man sits at a desk in front of a computer screen. He’s Colin, the energy vampire from What We Do In the Shadows, a vampire who doesn’t drink blood, but just sucks the will to live from people.

Las Vegas Fur Con: also has more sex
They are absolutely trolling us now. A conference for 200 people! Or one tenth the attendance of Las Vegas Fur Con, which notably does not get a trend piece in every major publication. www.nytimes.com/2025/04/17/s...
The Women Who Think the World Needs More Babies (Gift Article)
At a convention of the pronatalist movement, the relatively few women in attendance agreed: Motherhood needs a rebrand.

Publisher bizdev people at events like GDC and Dice trying to sign "the next balatro" should realize that, statistically, the developer of "the next Balatro" you need to be talking to isn't at GDC or Dice talking to bizdev guys seeking 2m+ in funding

A person is smart. People are stupid.

If bad thing happens, someone steps up and fixes it, people think they are a hero.

If someone does a thing, spends a lot of money to prevent bad thing and successfully prevents it - in the eyes of the public they just pissed away a lot of money for 'no' reason
DAMMIT NPR.

I spent nine months upgrading over TEN THOUSAND desktops at a F500 client. The grand total was over SEVENTY THOUSAND applications upgraded.

Y2K "didn't live up to the hype" because the industry busted ass to duct tape everything first.

People feared the computer glitch would mean "the end of the world as we know it." Thankfully, Y2K didn't live up to the hype after years and billions of dollars were spent on painstaking preparation.

Ok this is kinda weird I guess because it seems like something a lot of people just “know”. I have no idea what Redwall is. I just think the feasts bot posts wholesome things.
REDWALL FEASTS BOT IS HERE. I HAVE NO REASON TO RETURN TO THE DREADED OLD REALM AGAIN.
The meal was a serve-yourself affair: wild beetroot soup, celery'n'cheese turnovers, strong old mountain cheese, honey bread, applecream flans, plum and greengage tart, and mulled nettle ale or mint an' buttercup cordial to drink.

A lot of people (particularly the ones howling to make homelessness a crime) really underestimate how much it costs taxpayers to incarcerate a person for one day.
Denver gave people experiencing homelessness $1k/month. A year later, nearly half had housing.

They also had fewer ER visits, nights spent in a hospital, and jail stays.

The report estimates that this reduction in public service use SAVED the city $589k.

Participants in Denver's basic-income program reported having more-secure housing, though results were similar in the trial and control groups.
