landing on the Liber Ark in Trails in the Sky SC. suddenly being dropped into this world that is totally incongruous with the one you've spent like 100 hours in was totally overwhelming.

can't wait to see what it'll be like in the remake.
tell me about a time you were awed by a set piece in a video game. not a story beat, not an emotional moment or a cool mechanic, but something just There, in the world, that made your jaw drop or sent a chill up your spine

i say it every dang year- everyone always gets sucked into the cynical parade of hyper-capitalist advertiser trash masquerading as an awards show that is the game awards, and always demands better

gdq spends an entire week celebrating everything about games, and does it for charity. it's right here

gdq has 8 players on a single maimai cabinet right now and we're about to watch the donation total hit a million, as always if you're not watching gdq you're missing the best video game thing in the universe

slogging through trails through daybreak ii has got me thinking about how dependent the series has become on brainwashing/mind control/curses/etc as a cheap shortcut for the real, difficult and messy character development that helped make the earlier games so special. maybe i'll write something.

Ok, everyone, what book is sacred enough to you to get sworn in on?
Strange takes on Mayor Zamdani swearing his oath on the Qu’ran. It has nothing to do with church & state. The point of the oath is for the person swearing in to do so upon some text that is sacred TO THEM. Some Presidents swore in w/o any book. John Quincy Adams was sworn on a law book. His choice.

was about to make a 'frieren the elegy' joke but then i remembered that 'elegy' was only a fansub and the official translation went with 'frieren the slayer', which is just so, so very dull

"Frieren-sama, people listen to music on their phones. Even if they do listen on PC, they just use Spotify or YouTube."

"Huh? What happened to Winamp? Himmel loved Winamp."

this is activism
1. LLM-generated code tries to run code from online software packages. Which is normal but
2. The packages don’t exist. Which would normally cause an error but
3. Nefarious people have made malware under the package names that LLMs make up most often. So
4. Now the LLM code points to malware.
LLMs hallucinating nonexistent software packages with plausible names leads to a new malware vulnerability: "slopsquatting."

from my experience "everyone is more or less ok with it" means that the detractors have largely given up on fighting it because they're exhausted being surrounded by thoughtless chatgpt and copilot early-adopters who cleared the way for execs and leaders to push an entire agenda

but what do i know
