An important message to all Americans today:

WUSS-T'-SHEER

WUSS

T'

SHEER

That's all it is. Really, it's all it is.

(And while we're at it, why Kansas but Arkansas, as if you don't make up words that aren't easy to say)

Should get Blake's 7 S2 tomorrow. Exciting. and the 4k Blu ray of Twice Upon a Time, which is about the most important Doctor Who disc I'm missing.

Now that we've all got over the initial outrage and got used to them, I think we can all agree that plastic bottles having the lids attached is a genius idea. No dropped lids, easier to recycle and always able to reseal the bottle. Brilliant.

Fifteen minute leg of journey in a quiet carriage and had to tell three yoofs - one pair and one solo - (nicely) to stop talking loudly or listening to stuff on phones without headphones. In all fairness they did respond respectfully and politely but it's baffling you have to even mention it.

This could hardly be more nerdy, being a chart run down of people's most wanted missing episodes of Doctor Who (yes, individual episodes -- the full stories were in part one), but it's droll and fun and has guest voices (Mark Gatiss!)

Sometimes being a geek is having to explain really simple things repeatedly, to those don't get it or don't *want* to get it despite a proliferation of easy access info online. And it doesn't really matter - but it's horrifying when you realise they'll be like this for things that *do* matter, too

James Bond is basically Sherlock Holmes. We all get the basic idea and can drop in on different versions at different times and not be confused about whether it’s the same guy and how is it possible that the guy from the 19th century is also the guy from the 1960s and the guy from 2010.

Nothing says "wanting to pay tribute" like pointing out how much you don't like the stories the person was in. I mean fair enough if you don't think they're good stories, but... In a *tribute*. I say again, a *tribute*. You'd think it were common sense.

The return of Doctor Who has obviously messed with all their heads. The decision to make everything all in the same continuity even with the reboot was actually genius by Russell there but James Bond does not need to do this. It's fine. It's a dumb spy movie, put a suave British guy in a suit and go
James Bond’s death in No Time to Die is causing a nightmare for the next film. Writers are stuck because Bond “was blown to pieces.”

Anthony Horowitz, author of three 007 novels, says:

“You can't have him wake up in shower and saying it was all a dream."

Doctor Who has I think fallen desperately into this trap - particularly since the 2005 revival it has often been obsessed with the Doctor, and the stories around him are threadbare. All of time and space, and it all seemingly revolves around this character.

Dredd stories have always been wonderfully varied - serious, comic, realistic, absurd, and dipping into every other genre under the sun - because Dredd himself is a means to an end, not an end in himself.

To me this has been handled well with Judge Dredd. He has been appearing every week since 1977 but he has changed, albeit very slowly. His attitudes have shifted, but he is still Judge Dredd.
Melodrama heroes are built to have infinite adventures. But to do that *they cannot change or grow*. Change and growth can happen to those *around* them, but Batman can't say "you know what? Dressing up like a bat and beating people up is silly."

BADDIE: Heaps of exposition
BOND: Kills BADDIE, makes edgy joke, does a sex with hilariously named MIRANDA MINGE.

Spaceport Fear - another "lost tribe amongst advanced decaying technology" story and I rather enjoy those generally. This is fine, and makes a sterling effort to be solidly set in the 80s, and making Mel sound like a real person from the 80s. Rest of it a bit standard, but fine easy listen.

The BBC audiobooks sale from @bigfinish.bsky.social is hilarious cos clearly someone bought everything the instant it went up. Lots of things I would have grabbed sold out, about four things left I'm not fussed on!

"Oh Blofeld, you have been naive."
Just use a variant of the opening of OHMSS.
Big opening sequence. Ends with "I thought you were dead", cut to new Bond "I got better".

Done and dusted.

If only the Daniel Craig era - less than twenty years ago, and easily accessible on streaming and home media to remind oneself of - hadn't already put up a simple solution to this by rebooting and starting again EVEN THOUGH THEY USED THE SAME M FROM BROSNAN SO IT DOESNT MATTER oh God
